This morning I had my last swim practice of my college career--that's kind of scary--all that time I was counting down days and praying for the end to come and now it's here. Tomorrow we leave for Rutger's University (we have a "warm-up" practice there in the afternoon, and then it's to the hotel to shave and rest up for the start of the Metropolitan conference swim champs.
(http://www.besmarttinc.com) (http://www.besmarttinc.com/) Friday I'm swimming the 500free (seated 14th with a 5:30.) I feel pretty good about this race--I'm really happy it's the first day of the meet because I want to just get it done with and all. The school record is a 5:22.81, I don't think thats so unreasonable that its unachievable, but my goal is just to do a best time, and really work my walls and give it everything I got--we'll see where that puts me. We've also got the 200freestyle relay that day I believe. Saturday I have the 400medley relay (freestyle), 100fly (seated 19th with a 1:04.14) and then back to back with that is the 200freestyle (seated 20th with a 2:04.10ish) I think I definitely have room to improve in both of those events. The record in the 200free is a 2:00.21 which i missed by .05 two years ago...because the two individuals are back to back though, I am going to lead off the 800free relay that night, where I will hopefully have had a little more rest. And then Sunday all I have is anchoring the 400freestyle relay. I've got a brand new Fastskin II bodyskin to try out for the meet, and I feel like we tapered pretty well--I don't think we're as rested as in past years--we've been doing a lot of broken race pace things which we had dropped earlier in the taper in the past, but I think that might be beneficial in the long run.

I'll update while I am at the meet...but the website also has live results.

Good luck to you and your team.

Have fun and good luck! I remember my last college meet. I found a room and stared at a blank wall visualizing my race. I was so focused that an hour went by and it seemed like seconds (a surreal experience). The race was the 200Br and I was seeded in last in the fastest heat. I finished 4th but finished with a PR. Have fun young lady, have fun!!!!

Have a great meet! Go for 1t!

That's an awesome pool at Rutgers...you'll rock!

That's an awesome pool at Rutgers...you'll rock!

Yeah I really like that pool--the only trouble is is that they break up the girls and boys to make the meet go faster, and we alternate pools by day. Luckily the girls get the real competition pool (the 25yards that make up the first half of the 50m--if that makes any sense) the first and third day of the meet and only get stuck in the diving well pool on Saturday for prelims. Then at night we all swim in the competition pool. I don't really mind the diving well pool (its a fast pool where ever you swim really), it's just darker and the end lands to me are more daunting and I don't like the sloping floor appearance when I am swimming--maybe I should concentrate on swimming more than on where I am swimming haha!

Thanks for all the luck!

I post my blog here today just because my blogsite is down for the next few days and I wanted to still post somewheres.

What times are your events this weekend? I am going home this weekend. I will try to watch after I get back to Rutgers on Sunday. I have a meet in Toms River.

February 20th, 2008, 07:57 PM
Prelims all three days start at 9:30am and will run until probably around 1pm Finals start at 6pm. Sunday night the evening finals starts at 5:15pm with Senior Recognition stuff, then the swimming starts at 6pm again.

Best of luck, but more importantly, drink it all in, regardless. College truly is a once in a lifetime event, and as you continue these "last" events up through your graduation, may you enjoy every second of it!

Now about the name of your thread... sounds like your swim career will continue?

February 21st, 2008, 05:46 PM
Hey RedBird--thanks for the luck wishes. The blog name is just something I came up with last year when I started blogging elsewhere. But yes, next weekend actually I have a masters meet...so I don't intend this to be the end really.

We're at the hotel now, I got lucky and it's just me and one other girl so no sharing of beds or sleeping on cots. We went to the pool earlier and got in:

500swim stretch 300swim
2x200 kick (100fly/100free)
12x25 drill @.40
6x50 pace @.50
8x25 @.30 (4-breakout sprints 4-finish sprints)
4x12.5 starts with a breakout

2150 yards

Now we're waiting on dinner and then I will shave down! woot!

Back from round 1:

200freestyle relay: split a 26.29 (not that happy with that time...but...)
500freestyle: 5:28.52 (was hoping to drop more time)
400Medley Relay: split a 57.51 (which means I'm probably gonna be taken off that relay because the girl in the B relay did a 56. something--which sucks since we broke the record this morning, but...whatcha gonna do)

Gotta swim again in a few hours.

February 22nd, 2008, 03:26 PM
Did you make finals in the 500? If so, go for it tonight!

Back from Round 2:

200freestyle relay: split a 26.0
500freestyle: 5:26. something (and moved up 3 places)
Got taken off the 400medley relay and they rebroke the record we set this morning but it's fine, I got a long warm-down in and rested up for tomorrow (200free, 100fly, 800free relay)

Thanks for the update! I'm not knowledgeable enough to respond to the times you've put up, but it sounds like you're feeling pretty good at this point in the meet. :applaud:

Good luck with today's events!

Regards, VB

Very nice an eight second faster time in the 500 that you posted with your video.
1.2 faster on your 50 in the relay. Were you lead off on the relay?

Way to go Morgan!! Looks like this is shaping up to be a great finish!:wine:

Last night I didn't get any more than 4 hours of sleep :-o >:-0 I laid in bed and just got more and more pissed as the clock ticked by and I stayed awake!

But I did alright this morning (my pnemonia is really getting to me and the back to back events really killed me, but...)

100fly: 1:03.12 (seated 17th going into tonight (moved up from 19th))
200freestyle: 2:04.84? (added some hundreths which sucked, but I had maybe 10minutes between my 100fly and the 200free so, I guess all thing considered--somehow even with adding time I managed to move up 6 spots (20th-14th) so tonight I am in the conselation B final which is good for our team and hopefully i'll get some more rest in between the two events)

Tonight I also am leading off the 800freestyle relay (let me tell you...3x200freestyles in one day SUCKS)

I tried to nap in between the sessions but couldn't fall asleep again?!?! I think my back is so knotted up and tense that that might be causing the sleeping problems...oh well, tomorrow all I have is the 400 freestyle relay.

I went 2nd on the 200free relay yesterday.

February 23rd, 2008, 11:18 PM
Alrighty back from finals:

100fly: stayed 17th (we can't move up--locked heats) dropped a little down to a 1:02.9
200free: moved up to 13th and dropped over a second: 2:03.4? (not a best time or anything near it, but I'm happy enough to end on season best times.

on the 800 free I did a 2:04.1 (dead tired) we did end up breaking our school record though, so that was nice.

Tomorrow just the 400 freestyle relay--hopefully I swim fast enough in prelims to stay on the relay ((Damn freshman))

February 23rd, 2008, 11:34 PM
good luck. get some sleep. and with all the focus on the relay hope you can do it!!!

February 25th, 2008, 08:02 AM
Well we got home this morning around 1am. I had tons of homework that didn't get done so I stayed up until 3am to get some of it done and now I am up at 7am trying to get some more of it done. Sheesh.

Yesterday, aka last day of the meet, went pretty well. I split a 56.44 off the relay (went 2nd) in the morning. (2nd fastest split on the relay so I stayed haha) We actually all did pretty decent splits so the whole relay stayed in tact, and we ended up breaking the school record in that event as well. They haven't put the results up yet from last night, but I believe I went out a little slower in the 100free but our overall time dropped a hair and so we lowered the record a tad bit more.

I'll take today off from the pool and get back in probably tomorrow morning since I have a meet this weekend (masters). Might go for a run today or if I get a lot of my work done I could head over to speedskating tonight.

Congratulations on the great meet! Glad to see you got to set some records for the school. If they go up on your board, make sure to take a picture, as later in life you might get a chuckle out of having had your name on the wall.

sorry for not indicating that--but no, they are not coached workouts. I might get back in with my college team when they start having off season workouts but until then it's me myself and I

Tonight I also am leading off the 800freestyle relay (let me tell you...3x200freestyles in one day SUCKS)

Let's ask Quemena and Waterman what they think about it! At EISL Championships, in this morning's prelims they tied for 8th in the 200 free: http://www.swimindex.net/live/2008/eisl/080306P011.htm (http://www.swimindex.net/live/2008/eisl/080306P011.htm)

Then after prelims came the swim-off... they tied again: http://www.swimindex.net/live/2008/eisl/080306F011S.htm (http://www.swimindex.net/live/2008/eisl/080306F011S.htm)

Then swim-off #2 began the evening session. Quemena went faster and made the final: http://www.swimindex.net/live/2008/eisl/080306F011T.htm (http://www.swimindex.net/live/2008/eisl/080306F011T.htm)

So the final of the 200 free was the 4th 200 free for each of them: http://www.swimindex.net/live/2008/eisl/080306F011.htm

But wait there’s more! The 800 free relay! Did these guys race the 200 free for the FIFTH time in the same day?!? Thankfully, no. Cooler heads prevailed there. http://www.swimindex.net/live/2008/eisl/080306F014.htm (http://www.swimindex.net/live/2008/eisl/080306F014.htm)

Bonus round: In the same evening session, two other guys tied for first in the 1000 free. http://www.swimindex.net/live/2008/eisl/080306F008.htm (http://www.swimindex.net/live/2008/eisl/080306F008.htm)
