swimnews.com has an interesting article about Amaury Leveaux's 21.38 50 free European record:
http://www.swimnews.com/News/displayStory.jhtml?id=6095
Leveaux's drop from 22.80 to 21.38 makes him somewhat of an anomaly among the 200m competitors in that 200m contenders (ranked 3rd in 2008) aren't normally competitive in the 50m event (ranked 2nd all time). Perhaps he's been training for the wrong event?

His swim in 2006, very unique stroke http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-2353924114344959295&q=Amaury+Leveaux&total=2&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=1&hl=en-CA

I would venture to guess his underwater has improved somewhat since 2006. Either way, 3 men 21.5 or faster in such a short amount of time, that's incredulous!

Speedo claims its suit can improve performance by up to 2 percent. TYR, based in Huntington Beach, claims the improvement of its suit is up to 4 percent.

Not that one should take manufacturer propaganda too seriously but it would be interesting turnaround if the TYR suit turned out to be significantly faster than the Speedo suit and it were the Speedo sponsored swimmers and teams that had to make difficult choices.

I not going to say that im surprised by this but this really did come out of no where. Levaux went from not even being a factor in the 50 to being the second fastest man ever. Bernard went 21.76 last year so you could at least see 21.5 as a posibility.

Which suit did he wear? The TYR - Tracer Rise or the Tracer Light. It looked like the Tracer Light http://www.tyr.com/technology.php

Or was it something newer???

It was the Tracer Rise http://www.tyr.com/news20080426.php

Ok... I had no idea TYR had a new suit (Tracer)... has Nike come up with anything recently (other than the silicone-strapped one that they've had around for a while for elite swimmers)?

Does anyone else agree that these new suits are starting to sound like names for cars?

Can't wait for Nike's new Thrasher, it is supposed tobe so fast that you will thrash everyone in the pool. It is going to make terrible swimmers break world records.

How much is TYR asking for for their new suit?

They do not have a new suit yet. But I thought The Thrasher would be a great name if they had one.

$330 for the Tracer Rise I think and $220 for the knee length.Much more reasonable.

The great Karnak predicts that regardless of FINA, swim suits that allow you to swim faster than sans suit are here to stay.

Hold on to your goggles, things might get interesting.

Did anybody else notice from the video that it appears (from the very beginning of the video, which looks like a shot of Bernard congratulating Leveaux after the race) Bernard is wearing the LZR? Very interesting....

New WR set for the 50m fr 15.90 I think this is an amazing race, almost hard to believe. No LZR racing suit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78kAkfTEmg0

I didn't like his style.................... Knees bent too much. Low elbows. Head (way) too high. Not aerodynamically positioned. ...............
