Mason Sprint Classic: Finnish Formula applied

Why I think I "won" the 50 overall at the GMU Sprint classic. Here are the age-graded equivalent times (see mine, age 56, in bold). A glance thru the unofficial results suggests that no one beat me...

[note: the first time in the table is by american formulae; the one in the parentheses is the Finnish formula.]

for instance, the winners for different age groups (see actual times immediately below) failed to match their equivalent times (see predicted "equivalent times" further below):

which allows one to compare across genders and events, I see that Fortress simply blows you away.:)

Your excellent 50 free -- which I watched, great turnover -- rates a very respectable 88.8. Fort's 50 free rates 95.6; if I translate that to a 56-year-old male in the 50 free, the time becomes 22.79. She smoked you.

Her 50 fly rating was 95.9, even better. I don't have time to check all the others...

Chris, believe me, I do not for a second pretend that I am in the same league with the Goddess and Livingston Cup Holder, Leslie, The Fortress, Livingston.

If my last posting implied that I was the overall winner of the 50 free IN BOTH GENDERS then that was an unintentional oversight bordering on blasphemy. The truth is that Leslie's performances are simply unbeatable.

What I meant is that I won overall as a male, a much less competitive subset of the 50 free.

Such an age-graded victory is very impressive, at least to me, given the likelihood that my testosterone level and misshapen Y chromosome make my gender classification debatable at best. I have always argued that I should be allowed to swim in a third category: that of sickly and girlishly effete guys who have for whatever reason not opted to have gender reassignment surgery or leave the world of heterosexuality behind.

I think in this category, my performances even beat Leslie's! But I will not trifle here.

I shall play the (pitiable) hand that fate has dealt me, and enjoy my age-graded victory in whatever miniscule subset of overall VICTORY I can get the math to guardedly support!

Perhaps we should now move to the 100 and 200 freestyles?

PS you, as always, looked magnificent in the water, popping up like a hungry orka after each barely legal SDK. We gawking spectators half-expected to be spritzed with the humid exhaust of a blowhole. At some meet, you really should do a victory lap kicking around with most of your body raised, walking on water style, thanks to frenzied kicks of your tail flukes.
