Your Open Water season just got longer! Arizona will host a series of Open Water swimming competitions in 2009 on May 2 at Saguaro Lake, June 6 at Lake Pleasant, September 19 at Saguaro Lake, October 17 at Lake Pleasant and November 15 at Tempe Town Lake. All events will have 2k and 4k distances available. The events will be run by DCB Extreme Adventures with open water veteran Mark Gill serving as Race Director. All events will be officially sanctioned and open to both registered Age Group and Masters swimmers. So mark your calendar and plan to come on out to Arizona for some fun and sun in the desert. I can't resist this smart a** response: open water swimming in Arizona is like a ski race in Kuwait. Whatever!

I would, except that I have family living in Tucson, where both my children were born. You may also note that I didn't say I wouldn't do a ski race in Kuwait, if given the opportunity.

Probably will swim in at least one meet in AZ in 2009, just not the open-water ones.

You should come to the SCY State meet at the end of March. It should be a good one indeed.

BTW, Saguaro Lake and Lake Pleasant have excellent water quality. I've gone to both many times for boating, jetskiing, and wakeboarding; they are great venues for open water swims.

For the rest of you reading this thread, AZ is a great place to swim. Come on out sometime when it's cold in your part of the country...

Cool. Sorry for the snippy response to your smart-a** comment. As Doug said, we've actually got some great lakes for swimming.

FYI: next time you're in the Middle East, check out skiing in Dubai (http://www.skidubai.com/).

I'd like to, Doug, but I'm still thinking Depression and stashing my spare money in the mattress (I'm up to $4.75 and some loose change at the moment). Hopefully, in the fall for one of the SCM shindigs.

I'm hoping to do better raising money panhandling on the streets of Denver this spring and summer.

If you're desperate and near the Cherry Creek area, you could probably stay in one of my parents spare bedrooms--they probably wouldn't notice as they are both in their 80s and losing it :bliss:

Where do they live? Our condo is about 1 1/2 miles west of Cherry Creek. We're in our late 60s and have already lost it!

Mel,

If you come swim one of my open water events, I will let you panhandle at the venue.

That's a good offer, Mark. I'll think about it pretty hard while I'm camped out under the bridges along Cherry Creek. Maybe I can get some of my buddies to come along. Do you have a category involving grocery store carts?

Whats wrong with Kuwait, thats where i make my wife a single mom 8 months out of the year, doing what i do best, help bringing the fight! In all seriouslness, i dont know of a skiing place in Kuwait, however they do have an amazing mall that is pretty neat, nothing like Qutar that has an indoor skiing range and a mall that is in contest with mall of america and looks like a shopping cart! Thought you might find that interesting. BTW, the pool water here is usually needing to be cooled not heated, even in the brisk winter we have been in and the pool water is very hard, despite the best efforts of the work they put into it.
