Hey all,

Im new to this whole masters swimming thing, I just graduated college and just wanted to continue with swimming. I will be competing in my first meet since last march this saturday at Evanston...I was basically just trying to determine what kinda pace this meet will have. Are they quick about getting through all the events?

Really any insight to this brand new world to me would be great!

Thanks

Welcome to Masters competition! You'll likely enjoy all that ILMSA has to offer. EV will typically host well over 100 swimmers at this meet. Things that will make the event run at a steady pace are the 20 minute warm-up after the 400 IM, which is the day's first event. Also, the relays and the 200 open will keep the meet from running too quickly. If you are swimming back to back events, though, you may want to consider how much rest you need between events. (I believe we seed men and women together; you can check the meet info sheet to be sure, though.)

It may help to know that we have two pools--one for competition and one for continuous warm-up/warm-down. The second pool can get crowded after relays, but aside from that, it's a good place to cool down after your events. The officials, too, are great because they'll slow things down if the meet seems to be running too quickly. Good luck at the meet!

This will be one of the quicker meets due to the limited events. Welcome! Enjoy it for the next 50 years.

Same for most of us. I'll never swim ,looking at that dreaded pool line on the bottom again! Well, a few years pass & we start to look for something in our past that was fun & it was and is swimming! Enjoy the friends & workouts!!
