Where do you park? I park on the side street for FREE. There is plenty of side street parking (and meter parking...25 cents/hour).

Or take the train. Blue line runs right along the north edge of campus. It's about a 20-minute walk from Olgivie to the UIC pool.

I have a nice car.I have heard of stories of missing tires & wheels if parked on local side streets!! I will pay if I have to! I just think that since we are the event, that parking should be included in the meet fee!
Other than that sticking point, UIC runs a great event & I will look forward to this.

Oz, you have to be a little more open minded about the city and people who live there.
I've driven a Lexus and BMW to practice, meets and athletic events at UIC almost every day for the past 5 years. I've never had a problem, or seen a car broken into. I'm sure there is some crime everywhere, even Schaumburg.
To Carls point, parking is free on meters on Sunday, and the side streets are generally very available. As a matter of fact, the Police Station is less than 200 yards from the pool, and on the side street Carl is refrencing.
I'm all for rotating the meet to Elgin, Barrington, St Charles or wherever, but you have to realize UIC is very convient for hundreds of ILMSA swimmers.

Oh...I liked that pool. I did the Tyr Series Meet at UIC and the parking garage was free on Saturday and Sunday; it was very handy!

Robin, you may be thinking of the University of Chicago pool in Hyde Park. Very nice pool. UIC is farther North, off Roosevelt just West of Halsted. However, street parking is free off Roosevelt. And 25 cents an hour until 6 PM ( free Sunday) on the meters.

The TYR meet was at U of Chicago, not U of Illinois Chicago. The UIC pool is very fast and has more seating, which is good for the state meet.
We should all be positive and supportive of the teams that are willing to tackle the enormous job of hosting this meet. Negativity is not productive.

Sans doute, gentrification has taken place in the UIC area. It's unrecognizable from its seedy past.
(And I wouldn't begudge the parking fees, for in the past there was the unofficial fee you paid to loitering gang members to "keep an eye" on your car.)

If you can afford to swim in crisis time...you probably can pay $8.00 for parking...
And if you are coach - you can get reimbursed by your club :applaud::banana:

OK, got the info on the positive check-in. Thanks for that. One other thing. The entry form mentions another pool ("PEB"?) available for warm-up and cool-down. I take it that's in the same building? Will the shallow end of the main pool also be used for warm-up and cool-down?
Great White
April 10th, 2009, 10:58 PM
The same layout as in the past, the shallow end will have eight lanes in place for warm up/ warm down all day.
There is another 25 yard pool in the facility, but that is NOT available for use. ( at least not officially)

Not to beat a dead horse, but I know some swimmers are going to show up and stand behind the wrong block/heat based on the preliminary heat sheets.

Thanks to all swimmers who participated over the course of the past 4 days for the ILMSA Championships. There were some simply amazing races and records were falling, some national ones too.
I'd especially like to thank two individuals for their tireless efforts: Paul Moniak and Kevin Auger. Their work and diligence in running a meet of this caliber for the 4th year is a true testament of their dedication to the sport of swimming and USMS. Thank you Paul and Kevin.
We are wrapping up the numbers now, but this was the biggest meet so far with around 600 entered swimmers (we'll have the exact # and # of splashes shortly).
Congratulations to all the high point winners and congratulations to the teams for their fantastic finishes. Napervilled beat out Evanston by just 7 points for 1st place (it always comes down to that last relay doesn't it).
Thank you all for participating and now let's get ready for long course season!
