What is better, a longer workout once per day or multiple shorter workouts per day? Thanks

I would say one longer workout. But, If you are on time constraints, do the 2 shorter workouts if you really want to do doubles. Sometimes, I do a longer workout(high 4K to 5,000) in the morning and then, a short workout(2k to 3K yards) at night. But, I maybe do a double workout once or twice a month right now.

If you are a sprinter, then two shorter workouts. This will allow you to maintain a higher intensity for each workout.

If you are a distance person than one longer practice will probably benefit your endurance more than two shorter workouts.

Of course, what you do during workouts probably matters more than how you split up the yardage.
