If you missed the SwimFest09' in The Woodlands, TX over Memorial Day weekend, you can read the nice event recaps here:

http://forums.usms.org/showthread.php?t=13103&page=2

This was a first time event hosted by the USMS.
I think we can all agree that it was very successful in its' "dry run" and the work is already in motion to improve the SwimFest event for 2010.

What to do with this new knowledge and inspiration at a local level?
Swimmers are always asking me about swim clinics they can attend. Especially the novice and the competition swimmers.

Why not create a more local "SwimFest" type event within your own LMSC?
Gather 3-5 of your best swim coaches and offer up a weekend - or even a day of a circuit type rotation of technique instruction.
Offer a workout/practice session attached to the clinic.

It doesn't have to be expensive.
Plan the number of swimmers needed to cover the cost of paying your coaches and pool & related fees.

Call it something related to your own LMSC. Build some local LMSC comaraderie and friendships.
Watch it grow.

Along the topic of creating your own LMSC swim clinic...

Gather your best swim coaches - but also take a look at the local swim talent.

Often the swimmers in the pool have tremendous experience, knowledge - and teaching skill.
Try to locate those hidden gems in the pools of your LMSC.
Invite them to co-coach at your swim clinic!
