Founded in 1919, the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), has earned an international reputation as a top-tier research university. Its 4,016 highly acclaimed, instructional faculty teach an undergraduate student body of 26,928 and a graduate study body of 11,598. The UCLA Bruin Masters Swim Club is open to all adult swimmers (fitness, triathlete, competitive, and non-competitive) who are dedicated to improving their fitness through swimming. Within the program, structured workouts from the coaches offer valuable training assistance along with stroke and technique clinics, workshops, and general instruction. Our swimmers range from highly competitive Masters and professional triathletes to non-competitive fitness swimmers and all levels in between. The team holds 20 practices per week in the aquatic facilities at UCLA. Club members participate in pool and open water races—providing opportunities to compete and measure individual progress at the local, state, national, and international levels. This program is designed to help swimmers improve fitness and/or train for specific goals, and offer active support for a healthy lifestyle through friendship and camaraderie. The club, which was founded in 1995 has developed valued traditions (e.g., the annual 1 Hour Swim, 2 hour workouts on Thanksgiving and New Years Day) even as it is poised for growth and change.
