Hello from New York...I'm thinking of going to the San Diego SwimFest. Does anynne have any advice about hotels near the University. I might be traveling solo; I've never visited California. :anim_coffee:

Hi, Floswimmer. I'm a So. Cal native who now lives in AZ and will be attending SwimFest for the first time as well.

There are scads of places to stay in the San Diego area, but after comparing places I know and some I have stayed at previously with what USMS recommended (http://www.usms.org/content/swimfest10hotels), I went with the Courtyard by Marriott Sorrento Mesa (https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sanmm-courtyard-san-diego-sorrento-mesa-la-jolla/). I got a decent rate ($125 per night) and it's close to the university. I've enjoyed staying at many Courtyard by Marriott hotels throughout California and have yet to be disappointed by them.

Hope to see you at the event, it really sounds like fun.

The San Diego Swimfest is only second "swimfest" to be held. The first was in TX last year. Most of the organization is done by the USMS National office.

I attended the event as a swimmer last year, but know the benefits for coaches is key.

I strongly encourage attendance as the gathered expertise is better than most clinics and it is focussed on masters swimmer to benefit all level of experience.

Hope this testimonial helps. If you have questions, the swimfest webpage has links to get questions to the key organizers.

I work at UCSD and if you want a place that is in walking distance (a little far, but you can do it) try the La Jolla Marriott or the Embassy Suites on La Jolla Village Drive. Also try Hotel La Jolla. Not sure what their rates are, but you should experience the whole area!!!
