In wetsuits and swimming hats, 217 swimmers made their way from Pendennis Point to St. Mawes Castle. On hand for the festivities was former Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies. Various stories online:

Thanks ViveBene! I didn't see the distance when I did a quick scan of the articles. I wonder how far the swim was.

I think I saw 1 mile (try the first article).
I'm really happy to see ppl taking back lakes, ponds, waterways, oceans for recreation and enjoyment, even if it is all organized now. (Altho' Britain did repopularize wild swimming with Roger Deakin's book on breaststroking waterways the length of the Isle.)
In other words, not something to put on one's swim schedule unless one 'appened to be over there at the time. SwimTrek has an Isles of Scilly swim, in the same area, so you could do both, probably.

I think I might put this swim on my 2011 calendar. Sounds fun!
