I was swimming in a Pennsylvvania lake last week. I think it was about 58 degrees, but I'm not sure.

If it was 55? Then I've met my temperature tolerance goals. If it was 62, I'm still a ways off.

What do other OW people do for temperature measurement? Just go to a hardware store?

Infrared thermometer (http://cgi.ebay.ie/Non-Contact-IR-Laser-Gun-Infrared-Digital-Thermometer-/370461212494?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Test_Measurement _Equipment_ET&hash=item5641357f4e).

Slightly more expensive. But very useful. Check temp from a distance. This is what's used in English Channel swimming for hourly checks.

Very nice, but goes for $90.00 on Amazon.

Mine cost me about $20 inc. post on ebay from Hong Kong, 1 1/2 years ago.

Although I had to buy a second one, because I gave the first one to a friend on loan. She put it under water to pull the trigger...
