Help! I have just been offered to teach a new (for me) class at the local community college called swimming for conditioning. It will be about 15 weeks, 3 hours/week. There are 30 students registered. Any suggestions regarding a book, website, etc to help me be a better teacher? I have a strong fitness and water background but it's been years since I taught a swimming class. I meet the class for the first time today and I'm sure I'll have a variety of abilities. Any tips, general or specific, are welcome!

Check out Emmett Hines book, Fitness Swimming (I think that's the title). It is great and addresses both issues of getting in shape and of freestyle form.

good luck!!

Contact the local Red Cross for a copy of their swimming manuals many of which state clearly how to teach the different strokes.

be strict to show them you're no pushover, get them doing a few reps straight away to see how far on they are, then go from there
