While they’re at it, they should've thrown paddles and flippers in the mix of what's legal –and anything else that isn’t powered by a gas engine or a battery operated motor.

Yours truly is totally into this meet! Well, at least the 2nd day.

I actually have a special training log and i'm doing the entire decathlon each Sunday for 5 weeks. It came at a good time since I needed "something new" to try! While only 600 yards, I wrote out the intervals and it will take me 30 minutes. but with 2 mandatory backstroke starts and with 7 events after the 200 IM, that will be a tough set! I can see my weakness even before doing the set - so it's great to try something new!!!

The 100/200 IM will indeed be mystery order with a gaurantee that it will NOT be in traditional IM order, NOR will butterfly be allowed as the 1st leg.

D2, you missed your chance for equipment. The equipment relay was, and always is, part of our annual Christmas relay meet.

Holy Moley - best get practicing back to back IMs then!

Will the 100 and 200IM be the same stroke order or will they be a different random?

SEE YOU THERE!!!!!

You can still enter the Republic of Texas part of the meet tomorrow. TECH SUITS ALLOWED. Winning times will most likely constitute Republic of Texas World Records (yes there can be yards world records - in the Republic of Texas).

Report from today. As I stated in the top ten thread, although I would like to make top ten times, I usually judge my performance by whether I am able to beat chowmi. Today was the sanctioned part of the meet - no tech suits.

First competition 50 fly. chowmi is a fast flyer and a great sprinter. Going into the race I would say advantage chowmi. But, she swam a reachable time for me. I swam a few heats later and though I didn't feel bad, I just wasn't able to go real fast. Round 1, chowmi.

Second competition 100 fly. While I list this as "second," I should note that it is only "second" for me. While I have been resting and recovering, chowmi has swum several events including the 50 free a couple of minutes before the 100 fly. She is still breathing hard as she takes the blocks. I start to believe I can make this one. Her time is far from her best and I really start to believe. A few heats later I swim a pretty good time and beat her time. Round 2, no200fly.

Final competition 100 IM. chowmi again starts before me and has a time that is reachable by me. I start a couple of heats later feeling confident. I get a good start but as I enter the water, my goggles come off and stop on my upper lip. I try to swim with them on, but they suction water into my mouth as I swim backstroke and I pull them off as I kick in on my bk/br turn and throw them on the deck. Needless to say Round 3, chowmi.

As you can see, excitement abounds in Dallas - so dust off your tech suits and come down for the fastest non-sanctioned meet being held in Dallas tomorrow.

Note to no200fly: I highly recommend training with no goggles. I usually swim with no goggles now in meets, except that this pool the water really stings my eyes, so goggles come out of retirement for events post 50 fly.

Note to self: When scratching an event, do not write "not sure yet" by name. You WILL INDEED be entered in that 100 fly that you didn't intend to swim!!!

I too am doing the entire decathlon on the basis that I am not a sprinter, therefore should improve relatively as the morning progresses. Come and say  . I'll be wearing my old team's cap with my name on - looks professional, but unfortunately doesn't help me to swim faster!

And your 100 fly was awesome BTW.

The daily grand prize drawings were a $100 "travel voucher" for USMS nationals and a $100 gift certificate from Kiefer.

The mystery 200 IM order was: free, fly, back, breast.
The mystery 100 IM order was: breast, free, back, fly.

The decathalon champion in the women's division was none other than yours truly. I won a $50 gift certificate to D&J.

So come on out next year for more fun!

The second day of the meet included swims by a gold medalist Olympian and several new (Republic of Texas) world records. I chose to swim the super sprint pentathlon leaving the longer races (50 of each stroke and 200 IM) for others. Unfortunately, I did not take the advice of chowmi above and swam with goggles.

Fourth competition, 25 fly. I didnít feel choppy today and was able to ease past chowmiís time (probably helped that she did 400 yds of sprints before my first race). Round 4, no200fly.

Fifth competition, 25 back. I hate backstroke. I donít like any stroke where water gets into my nose. If not for the IM, I would just as soon do away with it; however, I made the best of it (itís just a 25) and with a less than perfect finish, I still managed to beat chowmi. Round 5, no200fly.

Sixth competition, mystery 100 IM. This is the IM where they draw the order just before the meet starts Ė in this case breast, free, back, fly. I concentrate on the order on the block and get a good start but as I enter the water, I lose my goggles - again. This time, I donít continue the race. Round 6, chowmi.

Seventh competition, 25 breast. After losing my goggles twice in the same race in one weekend, I am rededicated to finish strong in the last two events. I started working on my breaststroke a couple of years ago when I thought shoulder problems were going to keep me from swimming fly. I had a good start and finish. Round 7, no200fly.

Final, final competition, 25 free. I have never been really fast in sprint freestyle. When I was in college, Richard Quick tried to make me into a distance freestyler Ė thatís when I learned that I was not fast in distance freestyle. In the second womenís heat, chowmi set a new Republic of Texas World Record. That was too much for me. Round 8, chowmi.

To echo what others said, this meet is a lot of fun. So, mark your calendar and plan to attend next year.

Too funny no200fly! You will have to change your name to nogoggles!

Actually Coach Victoria beat me solidly in the sprint penthalon - she banked .6 spread in the 100 IM and we each won 2 of the 4 25,'s but that spread was too difficult to make up, along with her breast.

I swam the 50's as fast off the block & breakouts, then did them as 'back half of the 100". I build the 200 mystery IM, knowing that if you miscalculate, that last 50 breast could be a total time-eater! Then I started with true all-out punch on the 50 free and into the last 4 x 25's and mystery IM.

The funnest events were the ones where you get out and grab the stop watch to time the next heats. It was so campy to have to do that! The next funnest things was to see swimmers come in to watch and then be heckled into swimming the meet.

I really like the DAM meets. They are well run but not so formal that people take them too seriously. When announcing my name for the start of the 25 breast, Bobby said "I wonder if he will keep his goggles on this time."

It's pretty cool to have a meet where you can literally step up on a block, for a race about to begin, and yell out your intent to enter.

For everybody who did not come this year, plan to be there next year - it's a lot of fun and you can witness Round 9 and beyond.

I fully intend on being there again - perhaps by then Bobby will have figured out how to pronounce my surname (which is very easy) rather than reverting to first names only as he announced the lanes :)

And we need more people - I needed more rest between heats to socialise.

It sounds like the meet was a lot of fun. I wish there were more masters meets around where I live.
