WTH? Is this final?

My 50 back in SCM isn't in the FINA 2010 listings and it would be #1. I went a 31.14. (It appears that Valerie Jenkin's time is not on the FINA list either.)

My 50 fly is not on the list either. Though both my 100 back and 100 fly are. Who can I contact? I really hate it when my times disappear.

I just sent an email to Walt Reid.

I don't think it is final. Last year I got bumped off the initial listing, so I am sure there is some way to report corrections.

Congratulations.

Thank you.

I hope so. I will be rather upset if it is final. World Champion vs. Nada.

There are likely more errors if I detected 2 errors in one event in one age group. You'd think all the USMS data would be submitted together.

Congrats to all the US FINA ranked swimmers! The best are the people who are completely oblivious to their USMS TT and FINA rankings.

Next year, I plan to finally get on the FINA list.

You would think so, but in my case, the person who was left off was listed in the US top ten.

Someone here should know who to contact.

Leslie,
Im really sorry to hear about the error that left you off the top of the list. How frustrating. Just one thought. Were your swims done in a masters meet? I know FINA doesn't count swims from USA meets but USMS does.

Over the years I've lost more than several world records due to mismanagement by meet directors. I know enough now to take on the reponsibility personally to ensure credit is given.

I hope you can straighten things out.

The latest FINA Masters WR file (http://www.fina.org/H2O/docs/masters/wrtop10/rec_SC_nov10.pdf) lists Walt Reid (http://www.usms.org/people/02KFY)as the FINA Masters Recorder.

Thanks Rich.

No, I'm aware of that rule. I swam the times at a USMS meet, NE Champs, last December and my times are in the USMS database and on the USMS TT Listing. So it's not a meet director error, though I have had issues in the past with meet directors as well. It has to be a USMS or FINA error. Oddly, all the errors I've detected so far are in the 50s; I haven't found any errors in the 100s at least.

Doug, I did send an email to Walt Reid, so hopefully he'll get back to me.

These are the other omissions I've found to date:

Valerie Jenkins (45-49 50 back)
Susan Williams (40-44 50 back, 50 fly)
Fall W. (40-44 50 back, 50 free, 50 fly, 50 breast)
Lisa Dahl (45-49 50 free & 50 fly)
Karen Andrus-Hughes (50-54 50 back)
Traci Granger (50-54 50 fly)
Lisa Bennett (50-54 50 breast)
Laura Val (55-59 50 free, 50 back, 50 fly)
There are others as well ... though I don't see 50 errors at a quick glance in the younger age groups.
Some of these times are from the Pacific Champs, not just NE Champs. Pacific Champs was a week earlier.

I am sending these omissions to Walt as well. No idea how a list can be published with this many errors ...

FINA is Nov to Nov(ish some Dec swims get in and others don't) so your swims may count for next year. One question I have is,since it is Nov to Nov,were some swims done in tech suits. Also, since as I understand it ,some countries are not as strict about that for their local meets are some of the times done in 2010 swum in tech suits?

No, can't be right. My 100 fly and 100 back times from Dec. 10-12, 2010 NE Champs are on the 2010 FINA list. Other swimmers' times from NE Champs are likewise on the FINA list. For example, all of Chris Stevenson's times from 2010 NE Champs are on the 2010 FINA list (even his 50s). Some times have just inexplicably been omitted. Moreover, NE Champs times have always been on the FINA list in prior years.

Sometimes I feel like a sport that can't keep an accurate record of its times just isn't that serious ...

Yes, some times are in tech suits. I know at least the World Games in LCM was before the tech suit ban and the times seem relatively faster than those in SCM.

I see an error in my age group as well. From the same meet in early December 2010 that my times are from (all of them that should be are there on the list), the winning 50 free time isn't on the list but the same swimmer's 100 & 200 free times are listed...???

You might be thinking of FINA records, which are published in May and Nov of each year. Also the criteria for swimmer of the year, based largely on WRs (I think), are Nov to Nov. But the TT lists follow the same seasons as USMS.

The final USMS list isn't out yet. I am not at all sure if this is the official list from FINA.

Have been a regular “name” at this TOP10 FINA ranking so can say errors are common (as there is not a single world database-Master program- some federations do not send the swimmers times ….) but from my personal experience correction are possible….:applaud:
Well… until the end of the month the lists will be reasonably “accurate”:)

Thank you, WL. It is somewhat unsettling to open a list like that and see one's name left off entirely.

Walt Reid very promptly fixed the problem both for me and the list of other women I sent him (I checked those names, he may have fixed other 50s omissions as well). :applaud:
