Just announced today!

Eager for a chance to swim LCM before nationals? Want to swim in an excellent, state-of-the-art indoor NCAA Division I competition pool? Want a pretty full program of events and a generous two day schedule? Come to the GKMS LCM Summer Splash Last Chance Meet at the outstanding Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center (pic (http://www.wallanjones.com/images/jones-aquatic-center-550.jpg), pic (http://graphics.fansonly.com/schools/tenn/graphics/10-landing-showcase/thumbs/ajac-2.jpg)) at the University of Tennessee!

2011 GKMS LCM Summer Splash Last Chance Meet (http://www.dixiezone.org/Meets/1107knoxville.pdf)

KNOXVILLE, TN, July 9th & 10th , 2011 (USMS Sanction 151-005)

Why is this in general discussion, and not in event announcements? Because we are just getting started, this is the first LCM masters meet in Knoxville since the dawn of time, and we’re interested in any tips & tricks of the trade to help get the meets established! Is it true that a two-day schedule is more attractive to out-of-town swimmers, who have to travel? Will the absence of the 800 and/or 1500 free from the program discourage too many people? Will the presence of the 400 IM attract its newest devotee, want2beafish? Is our new masters coach, meet director, instigator, organizer, energizer bunny, & signature asset Jessica Hart the awesomest ever or what??

Also there are more eyeballs here. Spread the word! Thanks!

Umm.... no. SCY vs. LCM -- two different animals entirely. :) But I will check my family's schedule, try to be there for the other events (yay 200 back!!!), and spread the word!!

13. 100 Butterfly .......... 5. 100 meter Fly

Friday, August 5, 2011
17. Men 400 Freestyle
21. 100 Breaststroke ....... 6. 100 meter Breast
23. 50 Butterfly ........... 7. 50 meter Fly

............................ SUNDAY July 10, 2011
............................ 9. 400 meter Free
25. 200 Individual Medley .. 10. 200 meter IM
27. 100 Freestyle .......... 11. 100 meter Free
29. 50 Backstroke .......... 12. 50 meter Back

Saturday, August 6, 2011
34. Women 400 Freestyle

41. 200 Breaststroke ....... 15. 200 meter Breast

It's probably not accidental that the two event orders are similar. But I can't explain why the 50 free and 100 back are swapped at the end!

I am really sorry I won't be able to attend this meet. The folks and facility in Knoxville are world class.

Judd, I don't arrive in the U.S. until July 23rd, but I plan on being at summer nats. Hope to see you guys there.

I've sent this out to all of our club members. We are planning on swimming one LC meet this summer, even though we don't train LC. Problem is, we've been invited to the LC meet in Carbondale, IL on the same weekend. It's exactly the same driving distance to both meets for us. Our members will vote on which one we attend. Will let you know ASAP.

The pool at UT is WAY nicer plus I feel like I should support a meet in my LMSC and my state!!!

OF COURSE you are most welcome and strongly encouraged to come to our (http://graphics.fansonly.com/schools/tenn/graphics/10-landing-showcase/thumbs/ajac-2.jpg) humble (http://www.kisl-swim.com/champinfo/jones_aquatic_center_550.jpg) facility (http://graphics.fansonly.com/schools/tenn/graphics/10-landing-showcase/thumbs/ajac-1.jpg) here in Knoxville!

May I quibble with your estimation of the driving burden? According to my investigations, driving from Shelbyville, TN to Carbondale, IL (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Shelbyville,+TN&daddr=carbondale,+il&geocode=FQ5vHQIdkLjY-injyzBM7MJjiDHgUJcFwBg6sg%3BFSmsPwIdEqmu-ilzVmUrpQ53iDGzF88P0Wtk_g&gl=us&hl=en&mra=ls&sll=35.483406,-86.460272&sspn=0.207155,0.258865&ie=UTF8&z=8) takes 4 hours 28 minutes (261 miles), but driving from Shelbyville, TN to Knoxville, TN (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Shelbyville,+TN&daddr=knoxville+tn&geocode=FQ5vHQIdkLjY-injyzBM7MJjiDHgUJcFwBg6sg%3BFT63JAIdnXj_-impQs5GIhZciDHFNPXE2pLqew&gl=us&hl=en&mra=ls&sll=36.6143,-87.806575&sspn=3.266867,4.141846&ie=UTF8&ll=35.840082,-85.198975&spn=3.299405,4.141846&z=8) only takes 3 hours 25 minutes (207 miles). In all fairness, your teammates should have accurate information prior to voting!

While I confess to shameless cheering for the home team here, I will resist the urge to post a link to a rousing rendition of Rocky Top. You're welcome.

I understand your quibble, according to map quest it is 4 hrs. and 28 minutes. When I drive it, it really is about the same time as Knoxville.

It's not my call. I'd LOVE to come to the UT pool. I really wanted to come to the SC meet back in December. We'll see which way the club votes. We DO have a strong backer for Carbondale, since one of our swimmers did his undergrad work there and also swam collegiately for SIU. I'll do what I can

Alas, the talented, energetic, and ambitious Jessica Hart, who was head of the masters program at the time, got a real job, somewhere in Virginia. Her successor didn't last long in the role, and I have no idea who's in charge now. I suspect the next masters meet will be in about ... never.

However, if you are fast enough to swim with the kids (or don't mind finishing 75th out of 80), there are several USAS meets hosted by Pilot Aquatic Club (http://www.pilotaquaticclub.com/Home.jsp?team=sepac) each year. The next meet is the Pilot January Classic, Jan. 18-20, link here (http://www.pilotaquaticclub.com/EventShow.jsp?id=267342&team=sepac).

I never swam at this pool but I swam in the other one years ago that was called Student Aquatic Center and that was a state of the art pool back then. The other pool that is outdoors hosted the 1975 USMS Long Course Nationals. Now with this pool, they have three 50 meter pools all within walking distance of each other.

My wife and I swam in the 1975 Long Course, with our 10 week-old son in tow. The meet was held in the indoor pool with the outdoor used for warmup. Great pool and meet! Haven't been back since, but would like to see another Nats there sometime.

Wow! I didn't see anything other than the indoor pool and the diving well, but the indoor pool is definitely one of the nicest pools I've ever seen. Maybe The Nicest. Spectacular. When I have dreams about swimming, it's at UTK.
