:canada:

I know it's early, but I might as well start getting ready. Definitely cheaper than flying cross country to USMS Nats. This is about 5 hours due north from here, and I'm sure many from PNA will attend as well.

:canada:

Will you be going?? I suppose I need to get some kind of passport as well.

SCM?

I'm certainly hoping so! It doesn't say anything yet. I'm so much better of a SCM/SCY swimmer. But even if it happens to be LCM I'll probably still attend it.

Here is a picture of the facility:

I thought they alternated SCM and LCM at Canadian Nats? If so, it will be LCM.

Though this will be a "swim right through" meet for you as you're looking for the Omaha Nationals for your taper.
Canadian Nats will more than likely be my shave/taper meet.

I wonder if they allow us to use American pennies in Canada, as we use the Canadian pennies here?

Hopefully it'll be a decision left up to the meet host on SCM or LCM. I'll start flooding them with fan mail for special requests.

Looks like a really nice pool, but not much deck or spectator space. OTOH, Canadian Nationals are way smaller so it probably won't be an issue.

It is probably a good thing it is SCM as they don't really have a proper warmup area for LCM meets. For age group LCM meets I heard they put a couple lanes in the wavepool but one of the walls is rounded not flat.

knelson

Yeah, sounds like they will be running all heats in one half of the pool and warmups in the other half. With an entry limit of 600 swimmers a single course should be fine.

According to the latest Records and Tabulation conference call minutes:
https://www.usms.org/admin/minutes/records-2012-2-26-1.pdf

We may not have to do the measuring for Kelowna, if I'm reading that correctly. Or possibly for this year, we'll still have to follow the "old rules" for USMS recognition of Top Ten.

First of all, you certainly cannot count on any one rule proposal to pass. Secondly, from what I understand, rules that pass come into force on 1/1/13 unless we specifically ask for it to apply retroactively, something that may not be granted and that we haven't talked about as a committee anyway.

Since the meet happens before Convention, I would proceed with the safer assumption that the rule proposal will fail.

We may not have to do the measuring for Kelowna, if I'm reading that correctly ...

That's not at all the way I read it. The way I read it, there were three objections to accepting the 2011 results for TTs and and NRs:

There are three reasons these times were not included:
The submission deadline was missed (violates Article 105.1.2).
It is the responsibility of the swimmer to submit times with complete documentation to the appropriate LMSC Top 10 recorder (violates Article 202.2).
Pool measurement requirements were not met (violates Article 105.1.7C-D).
Therefore, to overcome the objections for 2012, you need to,
Submit the results on time.
Make sure the appropriate LMSC Top 10 recorder receives complete documentation.
Meet the pool measurement requirements.
That seems pretty straightforward to me.

Of other forumites...I only know of one other (from Seattle), but I'll let him answer for himself. :)

I have 3 other teammates from Wenatchee coming up as well. We'll all be staying together as a big happy family in their motorhome. Saves money!!

There are also at least 2 or 3 more coming from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho as well. One of those is a youngin' who is going for Master's WRs in a few events.

I'm hoping that next year they have the meet over towards the Eastern end, like Toronto, Montreal, or Trois-Riviers, so maybe I could drive to it. Not that Indy is an expensive flight from Philly, but it's nice to have options!

That's exactly why we're excited that it's in the Northwest!! It's about time we can get to a "big meet" without having to fly and spend 3 weeks of paychecks to get to a swim meet! :applaud:

Amen! Plus, Pan Ams are also in a more accessible location next year (Rio was prohibitively expensive, IMO). I wonder how many people will skip or not shave/rest for US Nats in favor of Pan Ams, since they're in the 50 states for the 1st time, and only a month after US Nats? Not to hijack the thread or anything...:bolt:

We are happy to announce that we are swimming for pure pride at this meet (and maybe some Canadian hardware!!). No concern about TTs or anything like that...well, except for maybe some FINA TTs!! :D

I love this pool, and it feels fast too, just from my warmup period tonight. Getting the measurements according to USMS's guidelines is just way way to hectic to even think about getting accomplished though. Good thing Fort's not here...:bolt:

Nice swims guys!

Thanks. It was only a race on paper since James swam in my lane in the heat before mine. I knew what I had to do to beat him, but he set the bar pretty high!

I'm happy with that swim, but man was it painful. I don't usually take it out that fast. I think it was good that I didn't hold back, but I definitely felt it on the back half.

Yes, Thanks Karl!! I was surprised by my time as well, and very happy about it as well. As I was watching Kirk swim his race afterward I secretly wanted to beat him. ;) It is cool how close our two swims were now that we can see the splits on paper. He ended up 5th overall, and I was 6th overall. Each age group we were 2nd place though.

Oh...and my 400 didn't hurt at all!! :D But I think there's a difference in mentality going on when you're leading your heat vs. middle of the heat like Kirk was.

400IM is coming up... :applaud:

Yeah...the 400 IM was...well...uh... :afraid:

At least for me. I was flat out exhausted. I couldn't get revved up in the fly, and during the backstroke I caught a glimpse of one other lone swimmer near the tail of the pack with me (Kirk). At that point my goal was to stay ahead of him...and if there was another 50 to go, I'm sure Kirk would've caught me! We had waited about 8 hours from the end of the 400 Free until we swam this one, so it is what it is.

I'll be ready tomorrow!

No, because FINA does not require measurements to verify bulkhead placement for masters WRs.

It's nice to be able to see the times/splits/etc. along with our other meet results...even though:

This event was held in a pool that did not meet the pool measurement standards or not all sanction/recognition standards were followed. Results from this event will not count towards the top ten list or event rankings

Hopefully we can get this rule changed at convention for future international meets following FINA guidelines.

Especially since they use a reversible current in the pool while we're swimming. The trick is being able to pace yourself with the yellow line superimposed on top of us during the race to be even faster!

Seriously, there is something wrong when someone can have a top 5 time in the World but, they can't make TT in the US. Just saying.
