I'm going to be down that way this fall and wondered if there was a club within an hour of there that I might be able to practice with a time or two? Thanks.

I didn't see any on the Virginia Masters site, but I'll be there in October and found this place from www.swimmersguide.com -- http://www.jccegov.com/recreation/community-centers/james-city-jcwcc.html -- for solo swimming.

Please post back if you find anything.

There are great options in Richmond and there appear to be clubs in Newport News and Virginia Beach, but those would all be a trek from W'burg.

No clubs (http://www.vaswim.org/teams/) based in Williamsburg and I am not aware of any masters groups that work out there. Only one listing for Williamsburg came up under "places to swim."

I was just a bit south near Newport News on business and swam at Midtown Aquatic complex (on Jefferson Ave). Don't know of a Masters group, but I swam during the team(s) practice and the coaches were nice enough to move me over to my own lane. It's a great facility and the team produced Katie Hoff and Dave Walters.

Thanks for the info. There are a # of pools listed in the "places to swim" section of this site, just too many to try and sort them all out. I did check out the VA USMS website and found a listing of clubs and locations - pretty good reference http://www.vaswim.org/teams/ (http://www.vaswim.org/teams/) It looks like several clubs within 30-40 miles so I might have to make some contacts and go check one or two of them out while I'm down there...if they'll have me.

(That sure looks like a good website... :bolt:)

If email isn't enough, the Registrar (mailto:varegistrar@usms.org) has further contact info for each club.

A group gets together informally in the mornings at MidTown in Hampton.
There is also a workout group at Ft Eustis. Information is on the Coast Guard Blue Dolphins website (an age group team).
You can get in a workout at the James City County/Williamsburg Rec Center. I've been there when we were at a soccer tournament in Williamsburg.

I can't imagine how that web site got to be so good :)
