I have heard people talk here about the importance of flexibility but am still a little confused about what kind of flexibility is important for swimming. So my questions are: what are the important parts of your body to keep flexible, and...what kind of stretches do you do to enhance flexibility in those areas?

I can think of about 3 reasons why you want to work on flexibility:
1) Ankle and shoulder motion, so you can apply force to the water
2) Again shoulders, for tighter streamline on the pushoffs/dives
3) Any muscle tension (especially in opposing muscle groups) will mean more wasted energy. So pretty much stretch everything. :)
