I pity future USMS women trying to break National Records (assuming Janet gets this swim approved for USMS), but she knocked off one Trials cut this morning in Austin in the 400. Way cool!

I think that was the tough one. That done, the 800 should be in the bag for her.

I don't see her in the results. What's the deal?

Edit update: the full results of the prelims are up now.

I don't think they have anywhere near everybody's results up yet for some reason... maybe someone made a mistake inputting the numbers? Who knows.

Just checked- there's 143 people entered in the women's 400 free, but the prelim results only show about 40. Clearly some kind of mistake.

Clearly some kind of mistake. The way they structured the meet, I think, is that they swam the fastest 5 heats in the first morning session (at least for the 400) and then, they had a second morning session with the remaining heats. Janet was not in the top 40 / fastest 5 heats, so she swam later. For some reason, the real time results are reporting it.

The meet will be flighted as described in the Meet Announcement. The fastest seven heats of individual events 200M or less and the fastest five individual heats of the 400M events will swum in the A flight with the remaining heats swum in the B flight. All heats in both flights will be swum fastest to slowest. The A flight will be swum first, followed by all relays scheduled to swim in the preliminaries (all but the two fastest heats of mens and womens relays), followed by all heats in the B flight. The womens 800M freestyle and the mens 1500M freestyle will be swum on Sunday, immediately following the completion of the B flight, slowest to fastest, alternating men and women.

Speaking of USMS swimmers, sprinting super stud Erika Braun (39) is at the meet as well in the 50 free.

Actually Dawn Heckman who is now in the 35-39 age group has gone 4:17.52 in 2010 and last year in 2011 went 4:18.63 so yes Janet would actually have some competition in USMS and wouldn't be lapping everyone. Now the trick is Dawn will have to keep swimming this speed the next 5 years.

She is in the consolation final. Any guess on whether/how-much time she will drop from the prelims?

I predict she goes slower in finals.

Yup. 4:18.11
She faded on the last 100.
Dropped from 4:22.87 to 4:17.27 in 5 months. If she can do that again, she will be 4:11 - high next summer. Cab she do it? Will that make the OT finals?

Getting to 4:11 by June would be VERY aggressive. If any 40-year-old can do it, it's Janet..but even then, I say it takes a sub 4:10 to make the top 8 at Trials this year. It took 4:15 just to make the top 50 US women in 2011.

Ervin, on the other hand...I'd put a modest bet on 2nd in the 50 at trials and an outside shot at a top-6 for the 4x100 relay. He was out quick in that respectable 100 tonight. And is pretty much as fast as in 2000.

She swam 8:49.05 in the 800 so she makes the 800 cut as well (8:50.49).
