The Southern Branch of the YMCA of York Co. is looking for a coach for our Tidal Waves swim team located in Shrewsbury, PA. We are a growing team looking for a coach interested in helping us continue to grow and improve. Applicants should love working with kids, swimming, and coaching.

The York YMCA's Tidal Waves Swim Team is open to youth of all levels & abilities. It is the perfect program for those who love to swim but have never competed on a team before, those who enjoy competitive swimming but want a low pressure, relaxed atmosphere, or high school swimmers wishing to stay in shape during the off season. Swimmers compete in local swim meets that give them friendly competition and teach them sportsmanship and teamwork. We are different from other swim teams in that we offer a fun, relaxed atmosphere, but are also very focused on teaching strokes and technique, as well as self-discipline.

Manage the YMCA swim team in collaboration with all branches under the direction of the branch Aquatic Director. Act within the scope of the branch, association, and national goals, objectives and policies to reach the team and program goals and objectives. The Swim Coach's interaction with YMCA members will reflect the YMCA's core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility.

The applicant must have a background in age group coaching and development of adolescent athletes; demonstrate a strong knowledge of competitive swimming with a wide range of skills. Past participation in competitive swimming is a plus. Must hold current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications. A minimum of 3 years experience as a swim team participant competing at various levels of competition is required.

1. Plan, prepare, and conduct team practices in accordance with team curriculum and goals.
2. Supervise and manage swim team practices.
3. Create and execute swim practice workouts.
4. Develop and coach the Southern Branch Tidal Waves Swim Team program.
5. Maintain proper records, team lists and all information dealing with the swim team.
6. Keep abreast on all technical changes and implement necessary stroke drills to effect positive changes in swimmers strokes.
7. Attend all team meets designated by the Aquatics Director.
8. Help coordinate entry information.
9. Have a knowledge and understanding of each individual swimmers needs that will assist in guiding them at practices, meets, and other venues.
10. Attend staff meetings and training when approved and requested by the Aquatics Director.
11. Relate to parents concerns through individual contact before or after practice.
12. Follow National YMCA philosophy of “Everybody Swims".
13. Work in collaboration with the York branch of the Tidal Waves Swim Team to ensure the development of both teams are working together.
14. Develop positive relationships with the local community to help grow the program.
15. Develop new swim team programs such as a Master’s Program and Swim Camps.

Wages are dependent on experience with any supporting educational preparation looked upon favorably.
