There are 1,863 swimmers entered in the 2012 USMS Spring National Championship. The meet roster (http://www.usms.org/comp/scnats12/heats/roster.php), team roster (http://www.usms.org/comp/scnats12/heats/teamroster.php), event psych sheets (http://www.usms.org/comp/scnats12/heats/) and a swimmer lookup function (http://www.usms.org/comp/scnats12/heats/lookup.php) are all available for swimmers to check and verify their entries. While we cannot offer any refunds, if you are absolutely certain you will not be swimming in the meet (or even certain events), please let us know and you will be removed from those event(s) before we seed the meet to cut down on empty lanes. Please note once we take you out of an event, we cannot put you back into the event. Edits will be accepted through April 6.

The plan is to seed the 500 by age group and then time using 10 lanes. There could be four sandbaggers in this heat.

Don't worry, Erwin's going to be tired from doing the distance double and then the 400 IM. He'll be toast by the time the 500 rolls around. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. :)

To answer two previous questions regarding Split Requests and the 6th Event for Greensboro:

Split requests for Records or Top Ten are required for an initial distance of an individual backstroke event. The swimmer is responsible for picking up the Split Notification Form from the Clerk of the Course, filling it out, and presenting it to the Deck Referee prior to the swim. A split request for initial distances of all other individual events (excluding individual backstroke events) and for all relay leadoff splits has been submitted on behalf of all swimmers, and swimmers need not submit split requests for those events.

The Championship Committee is happy to announce the sixth event will NOT be dropped for this meet. Swimmers who entered six events will be able to swim all six.

Next week we will announce all seeding decisions.

I agree that Erwin is probably the favorite, but I am not sure this is the most competitive heat of the age group (can't speak to the whole meet). The last heat of the 45-49 100 fly is pretty stacked.

1 Sims, David E 49 IM 50.90
2 Stevenson, Chris L 47 NCMS 51.72
3 Unruh, Steven L 45 NITR 52.92
4 Patten, Bobby 49 DAMM 52.99
5 Moran, Marty 45 SCYM 53.16
6 Heber, Scott 45 DAMM 53.50
7 Segal, William N 47 JAM 53.63
8 Shaffer, Mike G 46 VCM 54.43
9 Brundage, Patrick W 45 BRSM 54.58
10 Sargent, Gregory O 45 CONN 54.74

Bobby was 51.7 last year, Shaffer has been 51 before, Moran, Segal, Unruh and maybe others have all been 52-low/mid in recent years.

The 1000 and 1650 freestyle events will be seeded by time (men and women combined). All other events (including the 500 freestyle and 400 IM) will be seeded by age group (men and women separate). The only events that will require positive check-in are the 400 IM and the 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyle events. All others will be preseeded. Heat sheets for preseeded events as well as the estimated timeline are expected to be posted on the USMS website on or about April 9. All events will be swum in two adjacent 10-lane courses (across the width of the pool).

Please continue to send us scratches if you are absolutely certain you will not be swimming in the meet (or certain events). We can remove you from those events to cut down on empty lanes and provide for more competitive heats. Please note that once we take you out of an event, we cannot put you back in. Unfortunately, we cannot offer any refunds for scratches.

Please email any scratches to championship@usms.org. They will be accepted through April 6.

What Jeff neglected to mention was that the pool is 25 Meters wide. However instead of changing this to a SCM meet the Championship Committee will consider this a slightly long SCY pool.:D
