Too old to swim? The idea is all wet

Rowdy Gaines was the “old man” of the 1984 U.S. men's Olympic swim team, hardened by countless hours in the pool and years of competition.

Some thought his time had come and gone.

Mark Spitz, after all, was done at 22. John Naber swam his last Olympics at 20. Other American greats stepped away around the same age.

And, really, if not for the U.S. boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics, Gaines might not have even been making another go of it for the '84 Summer Games in Los Angeles.

He was all of 25....

Arman Hammer a billionaire swam until he was in his 90's and so did Rose Kennedy, President Kennedys mother who lived past the age of 100
