JOB TITLE: Head Swim Team Coach
REPORTS TO: Advanced Aquatic Director


Under the direction of the Aquatic Director, the Head Swim Coach manages the swim team in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth by the YMCA of the USA as well as the rules from the PennDel Swimming League. The Head coach is responsible for preparing practice workouts plans and swim meet line-ups. Head Coaches are to ensure a positive, healthy and valuable experience for all participants.


· Lead swimmers through skill mastery and swim practices
· Evaluate swimmers skills; provide skills needed to master strokes.
· Regularly check equipment for necessary repair or replacement
· Ensure fair practice and swim meet experience
· Conduct practices with energy and enthusiasm
· Provide support and encouragement to participants
· Maintain professional appearance and wear proper uniform and nametag
· Know and understand your facilities Emergency Action Plan
· Be on deck before swimmers enter water. Swimmers are not to be left unsupervised during practice or at any swim meet.
· Coach must supervise the entire swim meet, including warm-ups, practice dives, events, etc., ensuring the safety of the swimmers
· The coach is responsible for setting up home meets and work with the parents committee in securing volunteers to run the swim meets.
· Provide excellent service to members and participants. Communicate all YMCA rules and ensure that you are accessible and identifiable.
· Attend staff meetings and trainings as required:
Redwoods Group Trainings Within 60 days
YMCA of USA New Employee Orientation Within 60 days
Staff Orientation Within30 days
In-Service As Scheduled
· Provide excellent service to members and participants. Communicate all pool rules and ensure that you are accessible and identifiable.


Head coach must have current CPR/AED, First-Aid, Oxygen, YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming & Diving, USA Swimming Coach Level 1( if applicable) and one of the following; Red Cross Lifeguarding, YMCA Lifeguarding, or Red Cross Safety Training for Coaches. These certifications are required by the YMCA of Philadelphia & Vicinity as well as the Penndel Swimming League and USA Swimming Leagues. All certifications can be obtained after hire.


· 18 years old with High School Degree or equivalent, 2 years of directly related experience in developing and conducting programs.
· Current Certifications as listed above
· Ability to work with others. Sensitive to others.
· Ability to see and hear individuals and alarms in pool/pool area.
· Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
· Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.

· Know any computer software that is used for the running of meets and swimmer line ups.
· Input swimmers times and meet results into the team’s computer software.
· Be part of the parent’s association board.
· Be responsible for any communication with the families of their swimmers, i.e. regarding swimming, behavior issues, swim meets and invitational’s.
· Mandatory Meets:
o One Head and/or Assistant Coach on staff must attend each team meet
o Invitational’s are not mandatory, but at the discretion of the Aquatics director.
o Champs, Districts, States.
