I'm a masters swimmer .Had a laminectomy at L45 in July,2013. my back settled and now has to be stabilized with a fusion.I have a fantastic surgeon and rehab team.I'm fit going in, ready to be patient in recovery.During the past 6 mos, the wonderful thing is I've enjoyed the ability to swim with our team.I do about 11,500 yds a week.I cycle also, but have not in 10 months with back issue.I hope to return to cycling, but more importantly just want to be able to stand pain free and get back in the pool first.

I've seen a few archived threads on the subject. Can anyone shed some of their experience please?

Thank you very much, Lin

Hello Lin,
I had a fusion about 5 years ago. It went very well. It doesn't affect my swimming at all. I can't advise you about swimming after the surgery because swimming wasn't part of my normal exercise then. I know I was playing basketball, tennis and golf 6-7 months after the surgery. I remember I felt ready to play a couple of months before my Dr said ok.

Good luck and feel free to PM me with any questions.
