The video is from a fund raising campaign, but its interesting to see at least.

How many people would be interested in this technology? For me I'm happy with the tried and true finger check, but if I was a distance swimmer, I could see where this could come in handy.

Instabeat web site here (http://www.instabeat.me/).

Interesting. The gadget seems to be mostly a heart rate monitor, but also claims to track number of laps, number of flips turns, and other parameters, with post-workout upload to computer.

I have a minor weakness for innovative swimming gadgets like this (I was an early Swimovate (http://www.swimovate.com/) customer, etc.), so I pre-ordered one almost instantly. I am particularly interested in knowing what you can learn from continuously monitored heart rate data. How does your heart rate actually change while, e.g., swimming a 200? A set of 50s? That's new information!

Delivery is currently scheduled for September.

Confirmed (via email w/ Instabeat): Heart rate is monitored continuously, at 2 readings per second. This should be really interesting!

Cool gadget! Of course I just got my Garmin Swim. While not perfect it does help me keep track of my splits and stroke rate during a workout. Unfortunately it does not have a heart rate monitor like the Instabeat. Might have to put this on my birthday wishlist.
