Anybody ever swim out to Wizzard Island? Does the water warm in the summer?

A few years ago, before I was a swimmer we were camping at Crater Lake. The lake looked so intensely inviting, a still multi fathomed deep aqua blue.
Not knowing anything about swimming, (I was not a swimmer yet) nor knowing about the perils of jumping into water of unknown temeratures, I was stunned by my reaction. When my feet hit the water and the body followed vertically, the freezing cold made me quickly do a very strong stride movement , and I was able to not let my head get wet. It was completely numbing, the temerature that when dipping your foot in gives you a screaming bone pain headache. Needless to say my dip was super quick.
I have no idea of the temerature, but as I can quite easily withstand 55 degrees - mind you as I age I am noticing I can't quite stay in as long- I would shudder to guestimate it was around 45. And that was in early summer, and way before global warming;)
