The University of Maryland Aquatic Club (UMAC) is seeking two energetic Masters coaches. One for our morning practices, and one for our evening practices. All interested applicants should review the below or attached position information and contact Head Coach Tim Hamlet at thamlet@umd.edu.

Position: UMAC Masters Swim Coach

General Description of Duties:
Masters Swim Program. Your primary role is to be a team leader who motivates, teaches, and pushes our members to achieve their unique personal goals. The ideal candidate will facilitate a program that enhances the quality of life of our swimmers by assisting them with goal setting, time management, discipline, general fitness and team work. This candidate will also implement a program that will meet the different needs of all members in the program (competitive swimming, non-competitive physical fitness swimming, triathlon/cross training and stroke technique improvement.)Specific Job Responsibilities:
In conjunction with team administrators and masters swimmers, create and develop a training program for our year-round program (6-10 workouts/week) for both competitive and non-competitive swimmers, and triathletes.
Develop a dry land fitness program for Masters swimmers.
Keep attendance records and promote swim team participation.
Follow all RecWell rules and regulations.
Manage a coaching schedule while responding regularly and promptly to work.
Provide swimmer feedback and manage swim meet/ triathlon/ open water event schedule of Masters swimmers.
Prevent accidents and eliminate or minimize hazardous situations to ensure safety of participants.
Travel to meets/ events with Masters athletes as needed.

Necessary Skills:
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Works well with people of all ages and has excellent customer service skills
Accountable and well organized
Has excellent stroke refinement knowledge
Can effectively coach developmental, fitness and competitive swimmers
High school diploma
United States Masters Swimming membership or ability to obtain it within 30 days

Preferred Skills:
Prior experience coaching or swimming at the collegiate level or higher.
First Aid/Infant/Child/Adult CPR/AED certified (Professional Rescuer preferred)
American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches certification or equivalent.
Possesses a passion for the sport of swimming and working with swimmers.
Desire to work in a fun, supportive environment with other aquatic professionals.
ASCA Level 1 coaching certification

Starting rate: commensurate with experience

Other: All coaches are required to pass/ complete the following items before appointment can be confirmed.
A State and Federal criminal background check
A USA S background check
Athlete Protection training through USA S
CPR and Safety Training for Swim Coaches Certifications through the American Red Cross or equivalent
Foundations of Coaching 101 through USA S
United States Masters Swimming Membership
