Any one want to share the most "crazy" events at a meet (or back to back meets)? I see these as challenges and would like to hear from others that do things people call "crazy".

At a pentathlon LCM meet the idea was to swim 50,100,or 200 of each stroke and 200 or 400 IM, so the 50,100 and 200 of each stroke were back to back. My challenge to myself was to swim the 3 breaststrokes, back to back to back.

I have swum the Ironman Pentathlon at the Southside Seals Pentathlon Meet (in Georgia) twice and plan to swim it annually. It consists of the 400 IM and 200's of each stroke in a meet that lasts just over two hours.

I love all these.

I've done the 200 fly, stayed in the water (I was in the same lane for both events) for the 5 min break between the 200 fly and 200 free. I actually PR'ed the 200 free by 12 seconds. I swam all 5 200 strokes that day, 500 the next.

Not as crazy as one person who swam those 5 200 strokes, and the 1000, then showed up the next day and did the 1650, 400 IM, 500 free. :) LOL.

400 IM followed by 50 back or the 200 fly followed by 50 back. There's another one.

Back to back meets swimming the 5 or 6 events both days.

200 breast and 200 fly in a meet.

I think the 6 event limit a day hurts us in some respects. :)

Once at long course nationals my lineup was the 200, 400, and 1500 free; 200 back; 200 breast; 400 IM (and the 200 free relay). At another long course meet I swam the 1500 and the 800 on the same day; and at another one the 1500 and the 400 IM the same day.

Awesome!

I think Shirley's all the 200's and 1000 in about 3 hours on a Saturday afternoon, then the 1650, 400 IM, and 500 free certainly are a great goal. Check out the 2017 David Gregg III Richmond Va meet in Feb. 4/5.

Any one else?

At a two-day meet, I typically swim the maximum number of events, mostly 400 IM, 200 fly, 200 breast, 200 back, whichever distance free event is offered, and fill in with other breast and fly races. If my team can use me for relays, I'll do any and all relays offered.

The last thing I want to do at a meet is sit around getting stiff (which happens fast for me, unfortunately). Once I am warmed up, I want to race and keep racing with not too much rest in between. If races are too far apart, I have to do more warm-ups and cool-downs than I prefer to do over two days.

I also like keeping busy at meets, so I don't sit around getting nervous. I stay much more relaxed and enjoy it more if I keep moving! :bolt:

I have done the 500 free/ 200 fly back to back combo as well. There are usually at least 3 or 4 others on my team that will do this combo.

I pick the event less swum based on getting points for the team. Here's what I swam IL State meet in 2015.
500 Free
1650 Free
50 Back
100 Back
200 Back
200 Breast
100 Fly
200 Fly
200 IM
400 IM

I am planning on the 400IM at summer nationals this year. I have swum age group, high school and college, and have NEVER competed a 400IM, let alone doing it long course. That's about as crazy as this sprint freestyler will get.
I'm exhausted just reading over the above event lists!

If I could swim a fast 50 or 100 I'd probably stick with those!

Big Rock 350 about 5 years back...

You had to swim at least 1 50, 100 and 200m race.

I swam 50 Fly, 100 Fly and then all 5 200s...
200 Fly, 1 heat rest, 200 Back, 1 heat rest, 200 Breast, 6 heats rest, 200 Free, 1 heat rest, 200 IM.

CAN-AM Police / Fire in 2012 I did

200 Free, 100 Fly, 100 Back, 200 IM, 500 Free and 1650 Free in a session that was max 3 hours. 1650 was the last race. Managed around 17:50. So tiring.

Way to go everyone!!! This sounds wonderful and has given some new ideas to challenge ourselves at the next meet. :)

Not as impressive as some of the previous posts, but I swam 50 fly and 100 free back-to-back in a meet a couple of weeks ago. I was a bit apprehensive ahead of time, but had a good race in the fly and that helped my confidence for the 100 free, plus I was loose and warmed up. Managed to set PR's in both races, so was pleased with that. I then had to sit around for a couple hours for the 50 free and was tired and stiff by that time. Had an OK time in the 50, but it felt terrible.

If it was impressive for you then it is impressive for us. A PR is a PR. I'm happy for you!

I've done all the lots-of-events-plus-relays combos a bunch of times. It's tiring but if there's enough rest it's not so bad. The hardest thing I've done at a meet was (long course, of course) 100 free, followed five minutes later by 200 fly.

Lots of meets have the men swim the 200 IM final right befoe the 1500 (fast heat). I know it was common for the women to race the 800 at the start of Finals and the 1500 was last before relays. That means a world of pain for anyone doing 200 IM and 1500. Chad Carvin did this at the Janet Evans meet one year. I had a team mate do this at what is now U-Sport Champs. (Formerly CIAU and CIS champs)

Back in November, I swam 25m all 4 strokes and if things work right next weekend I'm doing 25y all 4 strokes, but this time back to back!

In College I swam the 500 and the 1,000 and the 200 fly in a dual meet. I never did find out what I did that led to my coach putting me into those events in one meet.

In a local meet , I finished the 400 I'm and moved over one lane to do the 200 back 20 seconds later.
The official looked at me and shook his head!

Go Orca! You beat me. I've done the 400 IM as the first event and then moved over 2 lanes to do the 50 back. I'm a slacker. I did the 200 fly and 50 back but that's it.

Ever notice that the refs do notice us that do this back to back events and make comments to us. I guess they really do pay attention.

I participated in my first ever swim meet as a middle aged adult in October 2016 with no idea what was appropriate. I did 200 y back, 100 y IM, 200 free relay, and 500 free. I'm calling the IM crazy because I'm a total beginner at fly having started learning it the month before. I could only barely do the 25 fly and was grateful for the edge that diving off the blocks gave me. For the record, I wasn't last place in the IM because a better swimmer got DQd for illegal turns.

Today at the Sewanee, Tennessee meet: 200 fly, 50 Breast, 400 IM, 200 Back, 200 Breast, and 200 Free in 3 hours. I was the only woman to do the "800 IM Challenge", and one of just two of us out of 78 people at the meet. (The other was Alex Bruce, the meet organizer.) I threw in the 400 IM to make it an "Ironman Pentathlon" to match the meet I do in September, and added the 50 breast for my last event to make it my biggest one day ever at a meet. It was FUN! :bliss:

YES YES!!! Way to go EK. By the way I thought of you today:

200 IM, 100 fly, 100 back, 200 free, 50 fly, 100 free, 25 breast, 25 fly, breast on a 100 relay, free on another relay, and 25 as best as you could free with an inner tube.

Gotta keep up the spirit!!!

Not only was it but I did 5 events in 1 and 3/4 hours: 200 free, 100 fly, 100 breast, 100 back, 100 IM.

Elaine - to really make your day, I actually PR'ed the 100 breast (among a 7 sec. PR drop in the 100 fly).

It's not quite a meet, but more than once at an open water event, I've swum the 2 mile, 1 mile, 1/4 mile, and 1/2 mile back to back to back to back. Longest rest was about 10 minutes between 1 mile and 1/4 mile. Last time I did this, I won three of the four, but I was too gassed on the last swim.

Last spring at SCY Nationals:
Day1: 1000 FR, 1650 FR
Day2: 500 FR, 200 BR
With a double ear infection on my 3rd &4th days of antibiotics, after having been sick for two weeks, and finally knew it wasn't going to get better on its own.
I decided that if I have a travel/taper meet like that in the future, and am in a situation where I'm sick, I will really have more fun if I scratch either the 1000 or 1650. About 1/2 way through the 1650, the second event, I didn't go "oh my, this hurts", I went, "oh, wow, I'm really sick." I would totally double the distance events on the same day again if I'm feeling well but would not race the next day. I recall while prepping for that meet posting questions about it and plenty of people have done that distance double on the same day.

I think my worst is what I've done for the Rowdy Gains classic last year:

Day 1: 1500 Free,400 IM, 25 Breast, 800 Free Relay, 25 Fly, 400 Medley Relay (Fly)
Day 2: 100 IM, 100 Breast, 200 Free, 400 free, 200 Medley Relay (free), 100 Back
Day 3: 800 Free, 200 Back, 200 Breast, 100 Free, 200 IM, 200 Free Relay

Second maybe the 2015 NC State Championships:
Day 1: 1650, 1000, 400 Free Relay, 200 Breast, 400 IM, 200 Free
Day 2: 200 IM, 100 Breast, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Free Relay, 500 Free
