View Full Version : Drury Gallagher to be Inducted into the Metropolitan Swimming Hall of Fame

Drury Gallagher will be Inducted into the Metropolitan Swimming Hall of Fame on Tuesday evening, May 21, 2002. Eight new honorees will join the twenty eight who were recognized the previous three years. The induction dinner will be held at 6:30pm at the Hall of Fame which is in the Nassau County Aquatic Center, Eisenhower Park, in East Meadow, NY. Drury will be the first masters swimmer to be inducted.

Highlights of Drury masters career include: currently holding of 6 World and 29 USMS Records, having 78 number 1 and 131 top ten rankings since 1993, and being named All-American in 22 years from 1979 to present. Drury is also a Founder of the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim (http://www.nycswim.org/) and twenty years ago broke the around Manhattan record by half an hour, doing the 28.5 mile route in 7 hours 14 minutes 42 seconds.

I should also note that this years banquet will have a guest speaker, Billl Irwin. Bill is a former athlete and coach in our association. Bill also swam masters on Long Island before moving to South Carolina and is a USMS All American and Top Ten swimmer.
