I am currently reading Phillip Whitten's "The Complete Book of Swimming". He talks a little bit about using fins in the section about training and says that they tend to become addictive, so he likes to limit fin use to 2-3 times per week, 1000 yards maximum per time. I definitely agree that they can be addictive (fun, fun), but would there be any sort of disadvantage to using them for a whole (or half) workout, say once every two weeks? Should I limit use to 1000 yards a practice because I could hurt myself otherwise? I'm interested to know how (and how often) other people incorporate zoomers into their workout...

I tend to use fins for drill work and take them off for "swimming." I may take them off and put them on several times during a swim session.

when I first got Zoomers 12 years ago I did all my workouts with them. ( I worked out by myself.) Six months and I didn't swim without them until I went to SC Natl's. I did great times at that meet held at USC. Then I started swimming with a group and only wore them for kicking because that was what the group was doing. now I swim by myself again and use the fins for all kick sets and drills and maybe some swims, like if I do a ladder, 1, 2, 3.4.5 and back I will wear fins for the 400's, or maybe go up with fins and back without them Makes the workout more interesting. I feel guilty if I wear the fins too much because the experts advise against it.
