Help,

I'm helping out a high school team as an assistant coach and have a question about what our kids can do between events to get rid of lactic acid buildup when there is no warm down pool. Our meets run a couple of hours on average, and many of our kids are swimming four events (including relays). While I know that teens recover much more quickly than we old timers do, I still see their performances deteriorating over their four events. I want to give them some dryland exercise advice that will help them perform better in their second, third, and fourth swims

This is a common problem in my area as well. My suggestion to the kids is to get in a hot shower and stretch. Second, often the pool is open during diving and I try to get the kids in during that time. And finally, after the meet I try to get the kids back in the pool for a post-meet warm down.
