So I recently got done reading Lynne Cox's book "Swimming to Antartica" and in there she wrote that freshwater at the same temp as saltwater feels colder and saps your body heat quicker. Why is that? Does the salt change the heat conductivity of water (kinda similar to the way it lowers the freezing temp of water)?

This is one of those pieces of wisdom that you see thrown around, but I've never seen it explained. The rule of thumb seems to be that there is a 5 degree F difference in perception. That said, I will say that it seems to be true. But in my case, since I usually only get to saltwater for races when my metabolism is revved up anyway, I'm not sure if the temp feels better because of the saltwater or because I'm hyper.
