Beach Boys

Kiss
Duran Duran
Madonna

(You can see that I'm a child of the late 70's and 80's) :)

Steely Dan
The Doors
Led Zeppelin
Hall and Oates
George Thorogood

It's really hard to narrow it down to 5. I like Big Band music like Ella Fitzgerald, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Duke Ellington. I also enjoy oldies from The Righteous Brothers, The Beach Boys, Supremes, etc. Then there is always Ricky Nelson, The Stones, and the like. Sometimes I listen to newer music like Outkast, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, DJ Quick, Foo Fighters. Too much to list. It would be easier for me to post a copy of my ipod playlists!

Police, OMD, Pet Shop Boys, Allman Bros., Lynyrd Skynrd, Styx, Chicago, Garth, ... I could go on all day! (As you can see I like a variety)

The best concert I ever saw... I was paid to watch (I was still a police officer then) the Go-Go's with opening act Devo. High energy, no trouble & towards the end of the concert 12 members of Vancouver's finest bopping in the aisles with everyone else.
Bands: Them, Velvet Underground, Rolling Stones, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, the Band...

Man, you either you guys are old, or it just goes to show you how good all of those bands/artists are because their songs are still being played on the radio and their albums are still being sold. I'm only 23 and most of the lists are before my time, yet I have those cd's in my car.

some of my favorites:

Queen
Guns N Roses
Elvis
AC/DC
The Doors

But the best concert I went to was Garth Brooks, he was an awesome showman.

Can't believe I haven't seen Bruce Springstine on this list yet.

I've been watching and reading a lot but add in very little. Couldn't pass up this opportunity.

Best Concert on video -- EVER

Elton John, Live with the Milbourn Symphony Orchistra sometime in the early 80's I think. Elton on stage, white Yamaha Grand piano, wearing a George Washington wig with a red/white/blue top hat, white tails tux. Played about 16 songs with the full orchistra, extra long versions. Awesome absolutely awesome.

Anyone remember that one?

Can anyone tell me how to spell check in this forum. I apologize for all the errors.

There are some pretty good "newbies" that haven't been mentioned yet either. Nora Jones, Alicia Keys, they have different yet classic styles.

I'm going to see Paul McCartney this fall and I couldn't be more excited ... I'm thinking I'll be the only one under 30 and probably under 50, but heck who cares PAUL LIVES!

In terms of new stuff ... Outkast is just fun (some stuff anyway), Love Nora Jones ... AND AC/DC RULES!

Kyra, thank you....Honestly though, I really wasn't a real concert type guy. Most of those concerts fell in my lap where friends had an extra ticket and asked if I wanted to go. Two of the times I say Dylan were in Coffee Houses...Gosh, I stumbled (literally) into a coffee house in the Village back in the late 60's when I was in NYC for the weekend with Marines in my unit and we got to see Leonard Cohen....That was most likely my favorite musical experience except for the Red Rocks concert and that was out of the world neat.

I was lucky I guess for I have always enjoyed a very, very wide diversity in music. My father was a violinist (not by trade) and my oldest brother a concert pianist so I grew up in a home where classical music was the norm. But again, I generally didn’t like the huge crowds but got to see some great musicians all over the country. When I was in LA a friend asked me if I’d ever seen Neil Diamond….Heck, I jumped at those free tickets….

Keather & Tom, I knew you guys were cool!
Bob Dylan is the best. I'm sooooo jealous Tom that you saw him at a coffee house. I've seen him so many times. Last concert- not so good though. Oh well

Springsteen
U2
Paul Simon
Rolling Stones
Tom Petty

best concert?? Had to be Day on The Green back in '83-84. Eddie Money, Bryan Adams, Night Ranger & Journey. I'd go to that today! I loved all those bands & to spend the entire day listening to them was awesome! 'Course it goes w/out saying that the Rolling Stones put on a h*** of a show.

close second best concert- Bob Dylan & Paul Simon together. I've got chills just remembering it. :)

Bob Dylan rules! He's one of the best lyricists of the 20th century (in my opinion) right up there with Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and Paul Simon ... and I didn't grow up with hippie parents and I'm under 25 (for a few more months)

You all would have liked this I think. The last time I went to Seattle I went to the EMP (experience music project), and the feature exhibit was on Bob Dylan. It was amazing. They had some of his guitars, hand written orginal lyrics, info on his career. It was really cool. Definately made me appreciate him even more.

and as a die hard (& finally vindicated) Red Sox fan, everyone should see a game @ Fenway. Tonight I'm going to Pac Bell Park (or whatever it's called these days to see the Giants). Yawn game, but a great park.

Karen, you just made me feel old. ;)

The EMP in Seattle sounds incredible!! I'm sooooo jealous.

Bocelli has an amazing voice & Elton John is awesome in concert!

The WORST concert ever??? Billy Idol. He was disgusting & if I remember right, he peed on stage. Nice. I believe Oakland politely asked him to choose other venues in the future.

The concert I'm embarrassed to say I don't remember? Survivor & REO Speedwagon. I thought I should "stock up" on rum & coke in the parking lot since I was too young to buy beer inside. I vaguely remember Survivor coming on stage. Several yrs. later, my friend & I were talking about being passed out in the back of car w/ someone getting a ride home from a friend. ....um, we were the 2 in the back. Ahhh, high school..... :)

SwiminONandON

lol ... very true ... rum and juice it is! Remember beer has barley, and that is good for you, wine has grapes and those are good for you ... most alcohol has a fruit or grain base, therefore most alcohol is good for you (is there any type of alcohol that doesn't?) that is the extent of my math skills!

I probably should not post this…but it was hilarious…..
Last summer I went out with this cute 25 year old for a few months…The first night we were in my car alone she pops off with, “Gee, what kind of music do you listen to…with a subtle jab in the middle of the question.” I smiled and told her not to worry that I left all my Lawrence Welk CD’s at the house. She got this deer in the headlights look on her face..and said, “Who’s Lawrence Welk? At that point I LOL and said, “Never mind!”

It is really sad that people don't realize what a great man Hubert Humphrey really was. If we had listened to him we wouldn't have had such a messed up '70's.

I would like to comment about all of the ball parks that are gone. I think that what replaced Comisky is one of the greatest tragedies to hit modern baseball.

I think that the only ball parks that are still standing that I've been to are Wrigley, the new one at Baltimore, Shea, and Yankee. I used to love to go to Memorial Park in Baltimore. It was like going to a high school's park, especially if you parked inthe high school that wasn't too far away. It was so intimate(sp).
When I lived in DC, we would drive ot Philly & New York to see the Cubs. One time, we got to Philidephia and my friend, Jane had to use the ladies' room. It was pouring down rain. Rhyne had hit a double that she missed. After the fifth, the game was postponed becasue of the rain. We wandered around the stadium for about 2 hours. Then the game was called. Jane was so upset she started to cry. Now one of the guys who woudl go with us has seats in RFK for the Nationals. And as predicted, everyone talks about how they really are baseball fans. Back then, all laughed at us and called us fouls!
When I was a child here in western Illinois no one thought anything about driving to Chicago or St. Louis for a game & driving home after the game (at least three hours before there was interstates 74 & 80). The factories used to have charter bus trips to Wrigley for Cubs and to St. Louis for Cardinals. They were part of the union dues. It was about the only time that the factory worker really got to spend a relaxing time with their kids They were wonderful excursions!

I know a guy who goes to US Cellular when he is visiting his parents in Chicago. He gets tickets for the top row. He says the view is great. I've sat at the top row in Wrigley looking downtown it is great. alsoon the top row at Shea. the best top row seat at any stadium I've ever sat at is during the US Open at (the court name just left me- the tennis palayer who died of AIDS). Totally agree. New Comiskey is a horrible park. Also I liked Tiger Stadium much better than the "new improved" Comerica. Why fix what ain't broke? I will concede that Safeco is much better than the Kingdome, though.

I'm biased, but the best view is any seat on the third base/left field side of PNC park in Pittsburgh. The Pirates don't do much right (:( ) but they did it right with their park.

2) The String Cheese Incedent

3) Stout ......(a "somewhat" local Jam Band from Memphis......their album "On The Rocks" is very nice!)

4) Phish

5) Dave Mathews

......Now 5 of my all time favorite bands (not including any of the above 5):

1) The Grateful Dead

2) Merle Saunders (and the Rainforest Band)

3) Bob Dylan

4) Neil Young

5) Tom Petty

I also like many other bands as well of course!!....Somebody else mentioned "Hot Tuna"....I like them a lot......I think a lot of them played with Jefferson Airplane.......I also love CCR/ John Fogerty a great deal.

Karen,
Thank you. There are a growing number of times that my mind couldn't give you a name of what I'm thinking about. taht is supposed to be one of the symptoms of that dreaded neurological disorder of which we will not mention the name.

there is a corner of the Arthur Ashe Stadium where you can see almost all of the other courts. It is also really high up. A great place to just stand & spin in circles.

Scansy,

You're incorigible! Funny, but incorigible :)

When I was pregnant at a LC Nationals I was accused of swimming two to a lane, but also at that same meet, while swimming backstroke (and breathing!) my "rack" was larger than usual. Kerry commented on the Twin Towers after my race!
