After two days of competition at the USMS short-course nationals in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Illinois Masters is posting some pretty impressive times and a few national champions to boot.

Mary Pohlmann, 60, won the first USMS title for Illinois Masters on Thursday posting a very impressive 14:35.95 for her 1000-yard freestyle. Pohlmann’s time destroyted the old state record of 19:09.10 by Mary Kurz.

On Friday Andrea Block, 43 won the 100-hard butterfly posting an impressive time of 1:00.89, just shy of her own state record of :59.41

Catherine Quill, 55, also won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:15.67, bettering the old state mark of 1:21.46 set by Irene David.

Back for more, CMSA president Mary Pohlmann took a second place in the 200-yard backstroke touching in 2:47.76. Pohlman wiped out the old state record of 3:01.07 by Betty Bennett..

Jim Tuchler, 40, takes down the 200 IM state record by touching in 2:01.44, good enough for third place in his age group. He betters the old mark of 2:02.41 by Plamen Alexandrov.

What I look at is the good vs. evil Smiths times. Unfortunately Tall Paul Smith has aged up and can't swim head to head with the other Smith. Where is that other thread when we need it?

But both are impressive in a LOT of swims. Holy smokes, a 51 in the hundred fly!

And why is it that the breaststroke times in my age group are relatively slow and I am out of shape and not there. And when I am there EVERYONE is fast:confused:
