Today at the USMS Short Course National Championships in Ft. Lauderdale, Betsy Durrant of Virginia Masters was presented with the Ransom Arthur Award.

This award is given in honor of Captain Ransom J. Arthur, M.D., who, by his sacrifice, perserverance, and dedication to improving the health of adults through swimming, helped establish the Masters swimming program in the United States. The award is given annually to the person who has done the most to further the objectives of Masters swimming.

Durrant has contributed to USMS for many years locally, regionally, and nationally. She is immediate past Secretary of USMS, and during the last two years has led the Governance Task Force as Chair of the USMS Planning Committee. Durrant's leadership role with the Governance Task Force has led USMS to approve a new governance structure for our national organization.
