Anyone know what's going on with Lindsay Benko and Erik Vendt? Are they done/retired, taking a break, etc.

Did Hall officially retire? Lenny Krayzelburg and Jenny Thompson have both said that they are done? Anyone else from the Athens crew?

The USA Swimming site lists Lindsay Benko and Erik Vendt as a current swimmers and clients of Premier Management Group, LLC. Others are noted as "retired" so one could infer that Benko and Vendt are not retired.

Lindsay Benko just got married to Mike Mintenko so I think that is why she skipped World trials.

Erik better not retire. I would be heartbroken. :(

I don't think it's been updated recently ... Jenny Thompson has retired and they don't list that, as well as Krayzelburg ... I THINK Malchow might be done he was debating and then had surgery and hasn't been training ...

Yeah, but Mintenko is swimming at Santa Clara ... I'll bet she's at least there ... I love her!

I hope Vendt isn't done either he's awesome!

Ande:

The picture of Amanda Beard at that site doesn't look too flattering. Is it just me or does it look like she's packing extra equipment?

i think it's an illusion created by the color pattern on her bikini
she is one fine specimen.

here's a few more shots of her, where you can study, uh, her technique, yeah that's it, her technique.

fyi

At
http://www.bigspeak.com/amanda-beard.html
her speaking fee is listed as $$$

which means

$ $7500 and under
$$ $7,500 - $10,000
$$$ $10,001 - $20,000
$$$$ $20,001 - $40,000
$$$$$ $40,001 +

not a bad day's pay

ande

PS Which points out why are motivational speakers always so excited when they talk?

Wouldn't you be excited if you were getting paid that much?

I thought Eric Vendt was going into the Navy SEALS after swimming at the Olympics last summer. Was that some sort of twisted dream I had or does anyone know?

He talked about doing that after he was done with his swimming career ... I was hoping he meant in 08 ...

Jenny Thompson really needs to retire. She has been on the scene for 55 years!!! Go to medical show or get your hosting gig on some TV show. I respect all that she did but let's see what the up and comers can do.

Jenny Thompson did retire and I was very sad to see her do so. She is an incredible swimmer and I don't care how old she is. It's nice to see someone excell no matter what age they are. I was lucky enough to be in Indy to see her last races. I actually got a little choked up when she was on the medal stand for the last time. She will be missed.

As long as anyone is still beating the competition, why quit? Gives the "up and comers" something to strive for.

This is going to sound totally cheesy, but oh well ... Jenny Thompson is a hero of mine. I have so much respect for her. It's one thing to go to college and train and try to make an Olympic team. It's another thing all together to go to medical school and make your FOURTH Olympic team in multiple events. I would support her in trying for a fifth team. She is amazing, and a wonderful amabassador for the sport.

If the up and commers can't beat her (which they didn't at trials or the Olympics) then that'll make them work that much harder to get that much better in the future.

Edited to add, yes Kara Lynn Joyce did beat her, but she won her spot, and therefore beat many up and commers that just couldn't quite catch her ...
