View Full Version : Figuring out split times for workouts

OK, I've set myself some (quite ambitious but doable) goals for the time from now to Dec 2005 (as I age up in 2006 :)

I am now working on figuring out how fast to swim in practice to be able to reach these goals. My immediate instinct (which I know isn't the right way to go) is: swim as fast as I can, rest, do it again.

For example, I am going for a 0:40 50 breaststroke SCM. I timed myself in practice today, from a push (and less than a week after a 5km open water breaststroke race) at 0:48.

If I wanted to do, say a set of 10X50 BR, what kind of interval would I go for, if I wanted to make sure that the last one was at least as fast as the first few?

Heather, I would think you should start with a generous interval, say 1:15 & see if you can hold a consistent time throughout; after that, depending on whether you hold yr times, adjust both the rest & number of intervals accordingly.
