View Full Version : Joe-isms

This thread is for all you Joes out there (as well as Tom, Dick, and Harrys) to vent your displeasure with euphemisms containing the word Joe. Such as, 'average Joe' which was mentioned many times in the Ion thread. (I can't believe there is a thread named after a person. It sure gets alot of hits though.)
The following words should be banned from literary textbooks, media outlets, and this forum:
Joe Smoe, any-old-joe, joe-swimmer, big-joe, little-joe, joe camel, any old joe, ordinary joe, joe sex machine (well, that one is OK), joe shopper, regular joe, joe programmer (that's me), etc.

In this day and age of ultra sensitivity and political correctness, I think we all can find another way to describe an average person without using the name Joe.

Just an average guy with the name Joe

What's wrong with G.I.Joe ? Or Joe Palooka ? Or Joe that made the machine go that Gene built ? Or Mighty Joe Young ?

I have spent the past 22 years poking fun at my best friend, named Joe. He's not your average Joe. And, he's certainly not an average friend.

Let's stand up for the Joes.

Randy I had to cut my workout short today because I will be staying up later than usual to see The WHO and ROBERT PLANT in Auburn Hills tonight. The WHO with 2 less original guys but still has the guy that crashes the guitar and the other guy that swings the microphone. Robert Plant not only does Hey Joe, he also does Morning Dew that Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart made famous on the "Truth" CD. He also does a Bob Dylan song.

My teammate Dennis McManus saw and met Robert yesterday in downtown Detroit. He had a meeting with Cadillac and it was a complete surprise to see him in the lobby surrounded by people. He was there for a new song for a Cadillac TV ad. If you remember they play Rock Roll by Led Zep in some of their ads now and they are updating with one of his new songs.

Hi Skip,

I could talk on and on about Plant/Page/Zep however we might be pushed out of this thread. Best we go back to "a song in your head during practice" Have a great time at the show -wish I was there!

I don't know, I think the Joe's might not have it so rough...what about the Jack's in the world, their prefixes and suffixes (it would seem to me, anyway) are far more vulgar, and certainly not appropriate for posting on such a reputable, and moral site! :)
