View Full Version : 5-Mile race, training plans?

I'm new to the forum, but have learned a lot from the site before I joined.

I've registered for a 5-mile lake swim in late July and I'm not sure where to start for a training plan. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find a plan or anything you've used in the past? My only past swimming experience is during triathlons, so I'm a novice when it comes to distances over 2 miles. Thanks a lot,

5 miles about 2 hrs swimming. You have to be able to swim for at least 2 hrs. You should do your regular workouts with a longer swim of at least 2 hrs once a week.

I had the same goal.
I trained by swimming half the distance 3-4x / week
for a couple of months. When the event came, I was
ready. Made it in 2 hours and 15 min. I was 50 yo.
