I won't be able to compete in an official meet until October, so this is essentially my first meet, the way my coach and I are treating it.

In that case, should I shave down for it...or am I still wasting time? My coach left it up to me.

Save the shave and taper for big meets. Use the unshaved, untapered mock meet as your benchmark.

Yes definately shave down.A mock meet should involve all aspects of a real meet.If you're not sure how to shave down then get your coach to help you at the pool.Good luck.

Most "real meets" don't involve shaving down, though. Most people just choose a meet or two per year to taper and shave for. If the mock meet is going to be your taper meet then go ahead and shave down, otherwise skip it.

Depending on the events you intend to cover you may need to consider nutritional requirements .Does the pool have electronic start/timing or will the coach be using his watch? It may be a good idea to practice getting use to the sound of the buzzer.
