1 Started Masters 26 years ago. I remember my first meet at the Briarwood Pool in Decatur. THat was before Dynamo opened! I had no goggles and could barely see after the meet!
2) I started when I was 32 years old. Lisa Watson gave my son his first "baby" swimming lesson and encouraged me to try a Masters Meet!
3) I swam age group at a YMCA in New Rochelle for 6 years. I swam 2 years at a junior college, but when I transfered to Denver I quit because I wanted to ski. Love those mountains in Colorado!
4) I started competitive swimming when I was about 11.
5) My best events were 200 fly, 200 breast, 800/1000 and 1650 free.
6) My worst is any backstroke.. However due to a ski injury I can not compete 200 breast, so I am trying to improve my backstroke and skiing!

Barry:

Good point. I should have been more explicit in my survey questions. I sort of meant to capture it all under "age group." Some people have pointed out their college experience.

It looks like back and breast are in a dead heat for most favorite and most hated. People who like back, hate breast and vice versa. I would note that there a only a very few who hate the sprints. :)

You sound like a mean backstroker Alex! Congrats on your high placing in that very tough and widespread competition!

And Heather.....You will break the 1:00 barrier in the 100 fly someday....Did you happen to read my prior posting about that? Just keep moving forward the way you are and you will get there sooner than you think....Remember that you are a flyer now (self declared) even if its not quite your best event at the moment.

p.s. Great to see the new postings from some of the newest posters!

In masters 18 years, starting at age 36.
Age group for 11 years (age 7-17), still occasionally swam AG meets until about 7 or 8 years ago.
Best events - 50 free, 100 free, 50 back, 100 back
Like most everything including open water except 200 fly and all breaststroke events.
Dislike that evil breaststroke.

This looks interesting... here I go...

1. ~2
2. 54
3. No age group swimming at all
4. See no. 3
5. Best masters event... my first 50 free which remains my PR, tho still pretty slow, 51
6. Favorite masters event is a tough one: The 50 free b/c I don't get lapped too much or at all (if LC) ;) and it gives me a chance to see how fast I can make my slow body go... but also like open water swims b/c I enjoy being outdoors and in natural bodies of water--learned to swim mostly in a bay, so it's like a homecoming.
7. Most hated masters event: Quick note: I'd rather not use the word "hated" but I took a stab at the 100 IM (hey it was the senior games and I was feeling reckless!) and t'weren't purty. But it was kind of fun in a weird way to try an event where I don't feel confident about meeting any goals except to manage to sustain the butterfly for the whole 25 yards and actually finish. But when IM sets come up in practices.... :help:
