To Michigan Masters, USMS, and all AAU Swimmers from the past:

I have some very sad news. Jewel Cooke passed way this past Sunday at 98 years old. To me she will remain one of the greatest Masters swimmers that ever lived. She had not competed in about 6 years. In 2004, she was awarded the Michigan Masters Lifetime Achievment Award. She still has USMS records from 1995 still on the books. Jewel is the first person to ever complete a 200 Fly and 400 IM in the 90-94 age group. I have provided a link about a story about Jewel Cooke from June Michigan Masters Newsletter "Wave Eater" and the story is on pages 6 an 7.

Very sorry to hear of Jewel's passing... I recall her WR in the 400 IM at Brighton. What a treat to watch her race.
