I've counting my strokes at 25yds. Its 18... I try and try.... reaching out as far as possible, making sure of a full pull by making sure my thumb grazes my thigh. But I can't seem to lower my stroke count.

Any suggestions??

You are finishing far back but are you starting far enough forward?

Forearm position? Vertical or dropped elbow?

How is your kick?

Body position? Low head with legs at surface?


That's all I've got for now.

Are you sure 18 is a poor stroke count for you? If you're fairly short it sounds reasonable to me. I'd say work to keep it long, but don't go overboard just to reduce your stroke count. Janet Evans took a lot of strokes per length and she did O.K. :)
