Is it considered bad manners to go to an out of state, state meet? I don't mean the regular season meet, but the final state meet.

Just curious.

I don't think so. I went to the Utah State Champs a few years ago, even won an event, and nobody really seemed to care I was from Idaho. There were a few other people from Idaho there too.

Absolutely not, Susan. Go for it!

I go to State meets in AZ and CA all the time because all the CO ones are in low earth orbit.

I was at that meet, too. And we were both swimming for Sawtooth Masters.

Check the meet information to see if it is a "closed" meet or if anyone can attend. Some meets may allow out-of-state entries but won't consider them for scoring / awards. This is more typical for USA Swimming meets, I believe.

You can get around it by transferring your registration to Unattached in that area's LMSC but the registrars will hate you for it if you keeping flipping it around, I bet. There was a kid in this area that was transferring his membership each weekend so his parents could see if he could set records in each state's championships.

Not at all, Susan! Don't know what out-of-state meets you're considering, but the Illinois one is always very VERY fast and fun! The days are loooong, though...

Last year, my husband and I went to Wisconsin States and it was AWESOME. Beautiful facility (Carthage) and only $2.50 an event. Woohoo! We had a blast. It's at a different place this year (near Madison, a little further for us) but we are considering going again.

I would say go for it.

Registration for the NEM Championships was closed as of the registration deadline due to the overwhelming number of entries (over 850). Normally they are able to accept some late entries. But they accept everyone who gets their registration in on time, so it's fair for all. (Although, right now I am sweating it because my entry hasn't been processed yet and they are down to the last 150 or so. I made my husband swear this morning he mailed it when he said he would.) They fully plan on people from other LMSCs attending and have team awards categories for those groups. I would say it is encouraged.

This is the "state" championship meet for anyone in Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, or Rhode Island. I don't know why Connecticut feels they are special and have their own separate non-New England LMSC and own state championships. There are a healthy number of people attending for other states and LMSCs like NY, CT, Missouri Valley, Pacific Northwest, etc.

I fully plan on attending the CT state championships when it rolls around since it occurs at a great time. I can't go to Nationals or Zones this year due to other prior commitments, and the CT state championships fall at a great time when meets start to get sparse.

It's good to get out and socialize with other state groups. That's supposed to be part of the fun of Masters. And people usually think it's special when you come a far distance to visit their state meet. Unless you beleive out of state visitors in general contaminate and create unecessary extra congestions on the roads, in the public transportation and on the sidewalks... But that's a totally different topic.

Oh really?;)

You plan on it do ya? We'll see about that:thhbbb:

I am actually gatecrashing the NEM meet along with a few other CT swimmers. I presume as long as you aren't obnoxious about your own state or abilities you'll be very welcome anywhere.

As an Arkansan I attended a couple of meets in Oklahoma last year. Didn't seem to be any problem other than the language barrier :D

We get a large number of people especially from the Metropolitan LMSC (NYC), from teams such as Red Tide, NYC Hydras and Dutchess County Masters. Those three teams have a combined 87 swimmers in the meet... over 10%.

Connecticut is separate in Masters probably because it's been separate in USA Swimming. Why, I don't know. In USA Swimming, Maine is a separate LSC, but in Masters, Maine is part of the New England LMSC.

Masters Swim meets are suppose to be open to any masters swimmer weather they are local, regional, state, zone or nationals. Meet Directors can impose a limited number of entries (base on limitation of the facilities), but CANNOT limit the entries to a geographic area. We do not hold a state meet since our LMSC cover 1-full state (KS) and western half of another (MO). We did have a dual meet between the KC and St Louise teams for a few years and held the meet in Columbia (central MO).

I have attended the Minnesota, Iowa and Colorado State meets; and most LMSC are glad to get the extra swimmers and revenue.
