Looks like I might be out for a few months again:sad: :notworking:

Last meet I swam.....Dixie Zone SCY Champs....tweaked something in my back/neck the first day....no excuses for the times. Kept bugging me for a while, right arm went numb and tingly. Recently it has switched to the left arm mainly. Was signed up for the St. Patty's meet back in March.....too much pain to swim....took a break....but still not going away. I have an appointment with a neurosuregeon next week

A little history....Dec 2001, prior to retiring from the Army I had surgery fusing C3, C4 and C5. Was having this same problem back then. Surgery worked great....am afraid that I am looking at having the same kind of surgery again:frustrated: Will know some time next week hopefully!

I went through this for about 3 years with my back...it forced me to stop football (soccer) I'd play 3 or 4 games..spasm out and miss 3 or 4 games...rinse, repeat, ad nauseum...
Good Luck with it.

Tracy sorry to hear that you are out for a while. What doctor will you go see? (remember I used to live in WR)

I may be joining you in the "deck" group soon. About 2 years ago my left wrist starting hurting. I went to 2 hand specialists and did PT and it slowly got better. About 4 weeks ago I got into practice and the pain was horrible. I have to tape it to swim now and some days I have to tape it to make it through the day. Doesn't help that I have a 2 year old to pick up all the time. I go see an OS this Friday (new one since I moved). I think it's a bone spur which means surgery and I'll be out for a while :(

I hope you can make it back in the water soon and as pain free as possible

I hope it's not as serious as you fear. But if it is, hang in there and keep us updated! Good luck.

Tracy
I still do not know you well enough to know which stroke is yours.
It could be one of the evil ones and that if you swim the stroke of Champions (Free) and with body rotation, you might not have to suffer too much. (Wishful thinking, I know). However, whatever it is, my (and all OUR) best wishes (I'm sure) go with you.

Alison, the guy that did the surgery back in 2001 was out of Riverdale, just south of Atlanta....Dr. William Yarde......really liked him. First appointment this time is with a Dr. Grigorian from the Georgia Neurological Institute in Macon. The biggest problem is always trying to find someone who takes Tri-Care Insurance....not a lot to pick from usually.

P.S. Thanks all for the support!

Good luck with the new doctor. My mother in law has Tri-care so I can relate from what she's told me. (although she likes quacks in WR - ugh). If you ever need an OS and will travel again, Dr. Gillogly is awesome! He only does shoulders and knees as well as being the Falcons and Thrashers doctor. He did my knee surgery and I was back on pointe (ballet) in 10 weeks.

"just relax and take a deep breath...it'll be over before your know it..."

Oh wait, what's a Myelogram?

tjburk
June 1st, 2007, 02:02 PM
It's where they stick a needle in your spine and inject a dye that makes the nerves show up better on X-Rays and a CT Scan. Then you have to sit up for about four hours or so until the dye works it's way out. If you let it get past your neck and into the brain......Massive headache....not a good feeling at all. But, on a positive note.....it definitely reveals where there could be problems so they know what to do to fix it.

Could do an MRI but with a plate and 6 Titanium screws holding my head on already they have a tendency to corrupt the image!

More then likely this time will fuse C-5 and C-6. They were a little suspect the last time.

Thanks Alison!!!! After the one I had back in 2001 I have a lot more respect for women giving birth and enduring an Epidural........luckily they get joy juice flowing through it and not this dye. That was one of the most uncomfortable feelings I have ever endured.....that needle going in just doesn't feel good!

Tj I feel for you man and will only complain about 50% as much if/when I get back spasms again.

Having 1 birth, 2 epidurals for surgeries and 8 surgeries in 6 years. I can relate to the pain. Hope your results work out.

Are you having any smoke issues outside today? My parents are in Macon to help run the Rock N Rollman Triathlon at Lake Tob. and said the air is pretty smoky. I hope it clears up for the race on Sunday. My sister is in it and I'd hate for her to suffer with smoke. She usually places overall in this race.

I hope it gets better before the race. I couldn't imagine doing a half ironman in smoke.

New to the race ths year is an Aquabike so no running (my kind of race). You can still register the day of the race http://www.gamultisports.com/rocknroll.html. My sister, Jenn Engelstad will be doing the full thing. If he's up to it, my brother in law will do the whole thing, if not he's Aquabiking it. If you happen to go and see a gray haired woman handing out packets, that's my mom. My dad is usually out on the course with the company owner, Jim. My parents volunteer for this company. The owner pays hotel and travel and my parents help him with every race he does and then both men do races together.

Thanks for asking. The weather was perfect. Did you have something to do with that?? My sister took 1st in her age group. Not bad since she just aged up to the 40 year olds. My brother in law did the whole tri and took 9th in his age group.

My parents worked hard and were pooped the next day. And they get to do it all over again in a few weeks at the next race Jim runs.

Did you get up there with your son? If not, I expect to see your name on the roster next year!! That means you have to do well with your back.
