I'm going to be in Austin mid next week, and was hoping to get in a few late afternoon swims. I can't make early morning or evening masters workouts due to meetings. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

What part of town? Have a car?

Late afternoon (5-7 p.m.) is sometimes tough because that is when the age group teams train.

You might check out www.wfly.com. I swim there. They have multiple pools and might have late afternoon space.

Take the opportunity to check out one of Austin's terrific spring-fed pools. Deep Eddy pool is a conventional lap pool, but spring-fed. Barton Springs pool is built into a creek, and provides more like an open water simulation. Either one probably has late-afternoon weekday hours when you could fit in a workout.

I can second the Deep Eddy recomendation. Was there earlier this year visiting family and we all went there, it's really nice. Now that the locker areas are restored, it's also a uniquely Austin experience. 68 degree water year round, no chemicals. The slightly tapered walls did take a few laps to get used to. I suspect, from the neighborhood, that there's good food and drink nearby as well.

You can check out the website http://www.deepeddy.org. It's inexpensive and convenient to central Austin, but too cold for me. Magnolia Grill is just down the street, as is the Hula Hut.
