I thought it was a bit corny at first...but have to admit its been very cool...interesting to see how many old friends are on there!

http://www.facebook.com/home.php?

Also....a number of LMSC's and Clubs are using it...note to the USMS marketing team....this type of communication is free and its the future.

You're just jealous that you can't read our masters swimmers' joint workout blog and see our funny photos. :mooning:

As Paul notes, Potomac Valley has its own group! Colonies zones too ... So do a lot of USA-S teams and summer league teams.

You have to register (email & password) and ask to be someone's FB friend before you can see their profile, groups, photos, etc.

With three teenagers and one just about there....it is any easy way to keep up with some of the things they are doing. Check out some of the stuff kids have on their sites.......I monitor my kids' sites pretty regularly and have had them take what I consider to be offensive off.....a lot of times a friend will send them something and they will just post it without really reading it..... They are a little more careful now that they know I read their stuff.....

Don't tell my coach that. He's convinced that very few people actually have access to computers. He won't even let us use online registration for nationals (insists on mailing all the entries together by snail-mail). :frustrated:

Attempts by the team to coax him into the 21st century are :notworking:.

I personally really enjoy facebook. One of the things I really like about it is the ability to post and view other peoples photo albums. It adds an extra personal touch to internet communication and socializing IMO ......(For example, I really like the surfing pics you posted Tracy!....it helps explain a few things for me now LOL!). I now feel a little more in touch with some of you guys after getting to view and comment on y'all's photos. We can also play games like scrabble and chess on FB. We have our own groups (like the hottub group and the joint workout blog....etc...). I think FB has taken online socializing to a slightly more intimate level with all the extra features and apps. Yaeh it is time consuming as George points out in his other thread ("What a Waste of Time")....but I personally enjoy getting to be a part of a larger community of masters swimmers now even though you guys are spread out over all 4 corners of the world (well Canada and the US mainly but you get my point LOL!)

p.s. Thanks for sharing about your grandson George! I will go and view his pics. You can view pics of my son Neal on FB too! We thought we almost lost him so many times now I lost count. he eats a little by mouth but feeds mainly through a G-tube. See you around FB George (b/c we all know you won't be able to stick to your 6:00 am to 7:00 am regiment now!)

Oh Yeah, Here's my profile page if anyone is interested. Drop by sometime to say hello!

Just curious why the teammates concede to the coach. What kind of team do you swim with? College? USAS? Masters? If it's one of the first two, I suppose there's nothing you can do. But if it's masters, what's to stop you from doing your own online entry, if you're more comfortable that way?

Anyway, here's my Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=518830323

Jeff, all I can say is you have to meet my coach! That, and he actually pays for the qualifiers to go to nationals, so while we do rock the boat from time-to-time, we always stop short of tipping it over.

Now before everyone trys to join PAFC for 2008, there's more to getting the trip to nationals than just meeting the NQTs. We do team fundraising and have other "qualifiers" that we have to meet to get the free ride. (For those of you following the "team scoring" thread, we are NOT a regional team :D.)

No, but they all get mailed to the registrar in one big envelope. Nothing like putting your trust in snail mail! I'm very worried that the change to online annual USMS registration will put him over the edge.

The thing is, he volunteers his time to serve as coach, so we love his dedication. Even when the quirks make us :shakeshead:, the absurdity of the whole thing keeps us laughing!
