  1. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 11:00am at the Y

by , January 22nd, 2011 at 04:48 PM (Fast Food Makes for Fast Swimming!)
I had to go to work today to fix some of the machines in my department, but at least I got 5 hours of OT, but I missed out on sleeping in today. I went for a nice 'n easy swim at the Y afterward, and just felt sluggish, probably a bit tired too. Didn't sleep very well last night either. At least my head doesn't hurt anymore when I go 3-4 feet underwater, so that means for my swims tomorrow I should be okay.

Butterfly Meet tomorrow in Wenatchee - 2 miles away from my house
That means I can actually sleep in and not have to leave my house at 5:00am or earlier like normal for a meet. We'll see how it goes!

    Jan. 23rd: 50, 100, 200, 500 Fly, 100 Free

Swam about 2000 yards of nice and easy stuff in preparation for my meet on Sunday. My head is still congested, and hurts when I go too far underwater, but it seems to be getting better. I actually got the pressure in my left ear to "pop" today, so maybe that is a good thing. Either way, I'm still racing on Sunday, just may not stay very deep underwater off the starts or turns.

    Goal times:
    200 Fly: 2:08.5
    100 Fly: 56.5
    50 Fly: 25.6
    100 Free: 52.0
500 Fly: finish it and make my entry time of 6:15

Plus I'll probably swim in 3 relays in addition to this, but those are just a bunch of 50's and fun too.
  3. Top Tens SCM

by , December 29th, 2010 at 10:53 PM (Fast Food Makes for Fast Swimming!)
I managed to hang on to a few swims, and lost a couple out of the top ten in the last few swims of the year. (Men's 30-34)

    2nd - 200 Fly
    5th - 400 Free
    5th - 400 IM
10th - 100 Fly (I'm surprised I was able to stay up there in the 100)

    11th - 200 Back (0.90 sec. away)
    11th - 200 Breast (1.20 sec. away)
    12th - 200 Free (0.56 sec. away)
    12th - 200 IM (1.73 sec. away)

There's always next year, which isn't too far away. I'm going to take a look into traveling either to the SPMA's, or maybe back east to the New England SCM Champs. Both of these seem to have some good competition in my age group. It's always more fun to race "live", than to just compare results.
  4. Upcoming meets - update

by , December 15th, 2010 at 11:37 PM (Fast Food Makes for Fast Swimming!)
They just posted the info for the Inland NW SCY Champs meet in Moscow, Idaho.
It's not till the end of March, but I'm already picking events.
    400 IM 4:46.89
    200 Back 2:18.00
    100 Breast 1:09.39
    50 Breast 31.50
    200 Breast 2:33.97
1000 Free 11:15.00 <--I'm going to go for a fast 500 time and just flip turn and keep going. Easier to do that than think of a 1000. That way I can maybe be under 10:45.

Not all are my "good" events, but since I'm swimming them at Nationals the next month I'll just have fun at this one. Nationals: 200 Fly, 100 Back, 200 Free, 500 Free, 100 Fly, 200 IM
  5. Lost a Few More

by , December 13th, 2010 at 07:16 PM (Fast Food Makes for Fast Swimming!)
    Top Tens for SCM...

After the last few weeks I've just been bumped out of the top ten in a few more of my races. I still have the 400 Free, 100 & 200 Fly, 200 Back, 200 Breast, & 400 IM. So all is not lost. We'll have to see after the SPMA's and a few others send in final results...
  6. Upcoming meets this winter/spring

by , December 9th, 2010 at 02:30 AM (Fast Food Makes for Fast Swimming!)
January 23rd - Wenatchee Meet SCY - This one's right at home, no more than 2 miles away. It would be good just to swim a bunch of 50s since I'm not paying for gas to go swim for a few seconds. But I'm not like that. I've got to take down the 200 fly age group record in my LMSC. 2:09.72. Should be piece of cake, considering the 2:17 I did the other morning at 5:00am for the Brute Squad swim. I also need to get in a 500 free since I haven't done it since last April. Maybe 400 IM for the heck of it.

February 13th - Canby Animal Meet Masters SCY - I'm signed up for the "grand master" version. 200 Fly, 400 IM, 1000 Free. Everyone gets a meet T-shirt. Winner get a cool trophy. Winner is based on lowest cumulative time among all age groups. This is also the team I used to work for as an age group coach after college for 5 years. It'll be good to see some of the folks after 7 years or so.

1st week or March or so - Cour'd'lane, ID will be hosting a SCM meet (I think, may be yards) at the new facility that was built last year.

Last week in March - Inland NW SCY Champs in Moscow, ID. Depending on the order of events, I'm going to try for the 200, 500 Free, 100, 200 Fly, 200, 400 IM. These selections may change though.

1st weekend in April or so: I'm going to skip the PNA Champs this year because I have to save $$$ for:

April 30-May 1 - Masters Nationals in Arizona. I'm going to fly in on Friday night, to swim Saturday and Sunday. 200 Fly, 200 Free on Sat. 500 Free, 100 Fly, 200 IM on Sun. Maybe I'll do a fun 50 breast in the middle of Saturday for my #6 event. We'll see. I'd hate to travel all the way there and only swim 5 events. Oh yeah, Motel 6 for only $28.xx a night. Got a round trip flight out of the Tri Cities, WA to Phoenix for $200!
After this I'll probably just wind it down for the summer, depending on my work schedule. I might get lucky and get to swim a couple times a week, but I doubt it.

  7. Brute Squad '10

by , December 4th, 2010 at 09:05 PM (Fast Food Makes for Fast Swimming!)
It's a postal event that we compete in each year. Our workout group in Wenatchee did the Brute Squad swim just before Thanksgiving, and since my work schedule didn't allow me to do it then, I got to wait till the day after Thanksgiving with a full belly to swim it. Mine was done at 5:00am on Black Friday:
200 Fly - 2:17 <-- Not bad for just waking up and diving in.
400 IM - 4:59 <-- This felt pretty good, only :13 off my best last month
1650 - 20:30 <-- This one hurt a lot mainly because I don't train for it anymore. I had to start taking :05 rest after each 100 at the 1100 till the finish. (Should have been under 20 min. in practice, but oh well)

Anybody else want to do it? You still have time thru the end of December to enter. You get a cool sweatshirt too.
