Mixing it up this year

I really like my toys and will continue to use them. The mix will be both distance and sprints. My focus for this year is to maintain my 200 fly time.

  1. Distance felt blaaah but my sprints seemed better today

    I do have to remind myself that I swim on an empty stomach so there is usually no fuel in the tank when I train. Meets are a different story, love to have a belgian waffle the day of a meet.

  2. I am soooo ready for this trip to start

    Turns out a few of the kids on GCAT will probably be on my flight to LA this Saturday. I just can't wait to start swimcation! Yes I know I will probably not be at my best with all the playing I will be doing before and during the meet but I don't go cross country very often.

  3. feel like ^$#( but that is expected this week

    For the second week of taper I expet to feel like garbage and I do. I could not sprint worth a flip and my distance was off too. I am really having issues not using my paddles now.

    The added benefit of taper for me has always been the weight loss that happens, usually I just have to force myself to eat more but this time I am going to wait till next weekend to do that. With the weight loss come the thigh rolls that seem to get more pronounced as I have more skin than fat underneith it. Thank the lord for compression suits!

  4. The back has its days and today was one of them

    I started out ok but after the 1st 50 of my kick OUCH! My back pain flaired up so what do I do? Change the workout to a fly workout of sorts. Fly drill that is.

    We also started late because the head guard didn't show. One of the other guards had to call to find out where the hidden key was then they set off the alarm. Joyous morning at the CCAC!

  5. Sprinting was better today

    Late start this morning got in 10 minutes late, had to stop for gas.

    My distance feels a bit off but my sprinting was better from the block.

    I also experimented with my distance swimming to see which kick was faster for me. 2 beat kick it is!!!

  6. Thank goodness the smell is gone

    I am greatful that the staff at the pool cleaned up whatever was stinking up the pool deck. That was just too rank... I asked the staff to leave at least one block in my lane for the next week. They are going to try.

    Only 10 more days till my swimcation starts! Need to start looking for a pool I can swim in when we are in Anaheim or I will be swimming in the Best Western Stovall pool with a bungy cord. You do what you have to.

    A slow start today. Did start feeling a little stronger as the practice went on.

  7. Oh the stench... and to top it off paddle withdrawal!

    After the state meet the pool and deck really need a cleaning badly. The deck smell reminded me of being at the barn my daughter works at.

    Workout wise this was an easy one. Still trying to keep my distance in the 2500-3000 range but not feeling as sharp as normal. Then again I do have to remind myself that I tend to swim on an empty stomach for my workouts.

    I am going thru paddle withdrawal too...

  8. Taper Time

    Swam friday in the hot Y pool at 87 degrees. Did a nice easy 3000 yards that day then off to work as admin for the 14 & under state championships.

    After the weekend out of the pool today was difficult to get back in and moving. Now my difficulty will be to find a pool I can swim in while I am up in Anaheim. Have to swim in the early morning so I can play with the family all day. I am going to try to borrow a stretch cord so in a bind I can swim in the hotel pool at the Best Western Stovall. You can probably figure out where I am going to be playing....

    Today was a good day but not great. We had a lot of air quality issues this weekend at the meet and after 8-2:30 on friday I had sneezing fits for about 2 or 3 hours after and my eyes were burning most of the time. Sunday was not as bad and I only sneezed for about a half hour.

  9. I thought this was going to be easy.... not!

    I put together what I thought was going to be an easy workout but when done correctly it hurt as much as any other workout just different.

    Tomorrow I will do a double but in the Y 25 yard pool since the LC state meet will begin this afternoon.

  10. Ouch the elbow is biting me again

    My left elbow is again causing me an issue but I can tell it stems from the tricep muscle so back to diligent massage. I have a professional massage scheduled for tomorrow and hopefully next week too.

    Just had to get in one last great strapless paddle day before I put them away for 3 weeks.

  11. An easy day for recovery

    Needed an easy day today so that is what I did. I have moved to the strapless paddles this week since they are smaller than my old big red catalyst paddles. For some reason I am seaming to be faster with the smaller ones this week.

  12. Getting fast today

    I don't know if it was 2 days off or just a good day but my times were fast today.

    I do need a massage badly and I have one scheduled on Thursday and then Friday I am off to help work as admin at the GA 14 & under state championship meet. Hopefully I should be able to get in and swim on Friday and Saturday morning with the older kids from GCAT.

  14. another good workout day

    I am going to be hurting tomorrow. Walt didn't make it to workout today so I came up with a workout for everyone. Normally I just swim on my own and make the workout something I need but normally the team doesn't do much with kicking and today would have been a stroke day. I think I will start carrying my laminated workout cards with me so when Walt can't make it the team can pick out a workout on the fly.

  16. A need for recovery

    I finally have scheduled a massage for next week. My body really needs it. Today was a bit hard to breath while I was working out but I managed. Allergies are kicking back in since getting home from Myrtle Beach.

  17. A great distance day

    Really pushed today. Shoulders and arms still hurt but managed to stay strong.

    I did set my heart rate up too high on my 1500 but I kept going this time with no ill effects.

  18. Tried out the Myrtle Beach Y pool

    The pool was on the warmer side. Very shallow pool, with no time clock. Had to use my watch which takes me a while to focus on so that doesn't work too well.

  19. Last long course day for the week

    Since I will be in Myrtle Beach my accessability to LCM is nill. Tomorrow is a swim in the subdivision pool at my parents house since nothing else is available. I think it is about 20 yards but I will do a stroke count to figure it out.

    Had a decent workout but not terribly strong. Arms hurt still but only 2.5 weeks till taper starts. I have to rethink a distance taper this time. It has been a while.
